So Soldier was revealed to be gay and there is a huge uproar? Why? Why do people hate the fact that he likes men? He is still the same bad a$$ old man that we all love. Torbjorn and ana were revealed to have been married and have kids and no one batted and eye so whats the harm in soldier being in a relationship too? All relationships are normal no matter the type. Them exposing soldier has really shown who how much close minded people we have in this community.

Pretty much. They complain all about how āsexuality has no place in this gameā but no one complains when Ana and Torbjorn are confirmed to have been in relationships with people of the opposite sex. They just donāt want people to peg them as homophobic.

No I wasnt trying to say that they are gay im saying that they are/were in relationships too
Probably has something to do with the fact that, rather than just making a new gay character, they took an established character two and a half years and retroactively made it so.
Trying to M Night Shyamalan a character that well established rarely goes over well, regardless of what it is (ala Luke in The last Jedi).

I would prefer things like sexuality to be left out of the game, not because gay people make me feel uncomfortable (I live in the Netherlands, thatās not really possible to begin with) but because there are a lot of people of do. And I donāt want to be forced in those controversies as ācollateral damageā.
Let the game just be a game, away from all the irl crap we have to deal with. Leave out politics, leave out gender identification, leave out anything except my ability to have fun and click heads.

Except 76ās sexuality had never even been mentioned before. Almost nothing of his backstory has. They didnāt just take a straight guy and make him gay, they revealed a character with no confirmed sexuality to be gay. People just assumed 76 was straight.

exactly, I donāt really care about the lore either way since the gameplay doesnāt progress the story anyway
apparently plenty of people do care about those few lines, and we all know it
so if it makes such a little difference, just leave it out of it? just let the game be the game without adding a bunch of useless fires that can only escalate
But itās lore. They want to develop a world where characters exist and have backstories. Sexuality and past relationships are part of these characters and are part of what led them to be who they are in the present. To ignore all of that and present them solely as soldiers to avoid the possibility of being labeled political would be a disservice to the characters; it would make them one dimensional and boring.

Iām more annoyed at how we got more lore, and the only thing EVERYONE talks about is that soldier is gay. We get threads almost every day asking for more lore, we get it at last, and someone being gay is the only thing people talk about.
And i blame Blizzard too, they know how the fanbase would react. If theyāre going to do the same every time they can keep the lore for themselves.
feel free to provide a survey to prove such a claim because āmyā empirical evidence (the couple dozen people around me who play OW) says the average player just plays OW for the refreshing gameplay, and could not care less about it
hardly evidence, but better than going off the opinion of a few loud mouths on the forums

No im not saying that based off the forum, I see people wanting lore EVERYWHERE, youtube, general chat, reddit, twitter, instagram, the list goes on and on. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

By all standards, heterosexual relationships are the norm, not homosexual relationships. Yeah, some people are homophobic and they donāt like having āthe gayā anywhere near them, but that doesnāt mean theyāre being inherently hatefulā¦unless they open their mouth and hate comes out.
Not liking something =/= hating it too.
Torbjorn is married with kids. Itās obvious on the holiday art of Torbjorn sitting and reading to a bunch of kids. Ana had a man/husband at one point and gave birth to Pharah. Could either one have changed their interests since? Perhaps, but of the two, Iām fairly certain Torbjorn is still 100% straight.

I believe the concern may be that it seems random, and out of no where- for a hero who has been in the game for years.
It feels like an after thought to appease crowds- more than a well thought out integral part this character and their identity.
