Should we reduce the need to aim?

Legitimate question:

Would providing universal aim assist lead to fairer matches?

I’ve been arguing for a long time:

  • using XIM on console leads to aim assist (a lot of players)
  • a huge rise in players using and having cheats ready to use

That simply by all measures hasn’t been brought under control by current measures and which shows only signs of growth.

Why not simply accept those things cannot be controlled for in the negative (stopping them) and so approach it with some lateral thinking:

  • grant every player an equivalent amount of aim assist

No need to complain about “skill ceilings”, Moiras and so on…

Just a fairer game for all.

LOL no. You shouldn’t need aim assist for good aim and it also makes the game inconsistent as hell you can solve the problems of ximmers its just a pain in the butt to do so.

Many people accept bribes. Apparently we can’t stop it.
Solution: let’s make bribing legal

Imagine if traditional sports had rules that force players to have similar performance.

“Oh, this company is doing a better job creating quality products and providing better services?
Don’t worry, we will rig the market so that everyone earns the same amount of money regardless of product quality”

there was a game like that and it was world of warcraft pvp. that game was more tactical in the sense of ability and cd usage BUT i am sure there was some cheats. think there was scripts on silencing abilities at the write time (like auto) and knowing when the enemies cooldowns were up. sure there was other cheats as well

SO

you can never deter cheating

XIMs don’t matter to PC players?
Console players already have their aim assist lol

I mean, that’s basically what the Citizen’s United ruling was in the US… look how that turned out.

I say we move ahead with it. What could go wrong?

Cheating is a first-amendment right or something.

Not quite.

Citizens United basically says that the rich are entitled to spend as much as they want and be as loud as they want over everyone else without restriction, and basically admits that money is speech, and speech is inherently unequal.

IIRC, Synder v. United States basically grants legality to bribery… sorta. You basically have to be screaming from the rooftops saying that you’re bribing an elected or un-elected official before you can be charged for bribery.

Right, but the unlimited campaign spending basically enabled quid pro quo deals. “I fund you, you side with me on this thing. You don’t side with me, I fund your opponent.” It’s happening everywhere in front of our eyes.

XIM’ers and Aimbotters are human garbage that despite the cheats still often play worse than the others on their team and drag them down. There is no need to drag everyone else down to their level.

This kills the competitive shooter.

Sigma double barrier in stadium

I think the cat’s out of the bag. Blizzard has already since day 1 release characters which are not aim intensive at all and have kept to that mentality of mixing aim intensive characters like Freja/Tracer and tried to balance with heroes like Pharah and Mercy.

They already made aiming easier with S9 projectile and hitscan increases. However, the question is if we need more? We totally do not need more adjustments.

The only thing that would change is the variety of options between aim and tactical focused. They can add as many characters as they want because the game is not increasing in number of playable characters at one time. We will only ever have 5-6 character in a team.

Honestly, I’m surprised that we’re finally in full agreement on a hero.

all my homies hate Sigma

those heroes killed the game. Brig, Moira, Sigma all made the game far worse.

They learned from that mistake making Lifeweaver not having broken util, who was balanced on release, then had to GIGA buff him to compete with all the other broken supports.

Illari, Kiriko were peak support designs with the aim aspect dealing damage, until they nerfed their damage zzzz

I mean just play heroes like Genji, Tracer, or Freja if you don’t really want to aim much but do stupid easy damage

Freja still requires aim, if you aint landing shots on Freja you’re gonna get straight farmed

Moira was never really meta defining, so she destroyed nothing. Brigitte was overtuned, but she’s not destroying the game now. That goes to the more aim intensive supports Ana, Juno, and Kiriko which is expected. Aim intensive characters have the most direct impact in the game.

The same with DPS. I don’t get why people are whining. The top 500 DPS that always get into most used category are options like cass, widow, echo, hanzo, ashe, and like Tracer. When was the last time you EVER saw Torbjorn or Venture or Pharah dominating top 500?

Sigma hasnt’ really been top 500 main tank pick for ages or most of OW2’s history. The day we moved from OW1 to OW2, Sigma died. He’s good, but he’s not had any many issues as Mauga, Orisa, and Zarya. Zarya keeps coming back as main tank so many damn times and she’s pretty vanillla aim tank.

As a more casual player of the game, you can say they are ruining the game, but there is in no way any non-aim intensive hero is taking over the game for competition.
