Should there be background music in Overwatch?

You know, one thing that bother me is that there is no music in this game. There’s a little jingle when the game starts (a different one when there’s a new character, map or event), another one upon joining a map, and that’s it. The rest is just complete silence, so when I have to wait 5+ minutes to join a game, it gets real awkward real quick.

So, what if there were music tracks available for all menus and all maps in the game, like in Smash Bros. ? And what if every character had a unique theme, like Street Fighter ?

Would that make the game more enjoyable for you ? For me, it sure would !

I just go to the Overwatch League menu and jam to Lucio’s emote.

But I would really like some background music.
Good idea!

Music is one thing that make LucioBall mode epic

I thought I was the only one!

I usually just listen to my own music on a chrome tab.

The only background music you should pay attention to are the footsteps of enemy flankers… ^_-

You know, my friend told me that if it weren’t for the music cues in this game, no one would ever attempt to play the objective.

And this post demonstrates that he was right, since apparently players don’t even know there are music cues for Overtime. Which if you’re playing in Competitive, happen almost every round.

There’s also a really subtle music for Hero Gallery and lootbox menus.

If there was background music, I would just disable it to not distract from hearing more important sounds. It is fine to not have music in a competitive game.

I dont have music on in the game no matter what, so I dont care. if people want it, blizz should do it, but I dont really care either way.

If you cant kill me, you are simply too slow!

Yeah, it is kinda dull not having any music. I guess they did it for footsteps but that is already thrown out of the window with the tunes for overtime and stuff like that. May as well just have some music all the time.

Exactly, sound queues are so important in this game. Maybe this is why so many people whine about Sombra despite the fact that she never shuts up and can’t help but tell you every time she does something.

Turn off the music and listen, you’d be surprised at what you might hear.

I listen to my own music in the background while waiting

no, the only shooter that needs to have music is Doom , Quake and Unreal Tournament

I like the music in devil may cry (solo rpg)
In overwatch i have to turn off youtube otherwise i play like a bot.

No. I rely too much on being able to hear everything on my headphones. It’s bad enough that there’s one at the start when i’m trying to figure out the enemy composition before they appear.

You can hear exactly where every one of the enemy is. I actually have bad reflexes, but my headphones keep me from getting caught by surprise. I rely on it so much that the random “Beep-boop-beep” and squeaks Bastion gives off when i’m on him is REALLY distracting!

I really do not want any music adding unneeded noise.

I love the music in fighting games, but it wouldn’t fit for a PvP shooter. Audio matters a lot more in FPS games because you don’t get full visibility of your opponent like in SF or MK. Listening for footsteps, specific gunshots, or abilities is huge in this game. It would be neat, but most competitive players would end up muting it anyways since it basically gets in the way. No worth the effort imo

I’d prefer no music in the menus, it allows me to switch over to watch YouTube videos or listen to my own music while I queue.

There is music at the start and end of matches, it actually has informational value because it’s tied to the countdown timer.

There is music though? And it’s bad, like most game music, and distracts from practical sound cues, so I’d like to turn it off. But then the countdown warnings are “music” so I can’t. Suuuper dumb.
