Seeing as they aren’t doing anything to change matchmaking to address the increase in complete stomps, would a surrender button for QP and comp work?
Absolutely not.
Loses first fight.
“Your teammate has initiated a surrender vote.”
The hype and enjoyment surrounding most of the average playerbase will not utilize this option correctly. It’ll be abused heavily by players lacking experience, gamesense, and basic consideration for their fellow players. Just because they value their fun above everyone else’s.
But yeah I guess the one dude asking for X hero for teamwork is toxic too. Idk. They at least won’t spam the surrender button as fast as the one trick.
In theory, it seems okay if used responsibly. However;
This is accurate. People will definitely “play for” surrender/forfeits condition, including throwing. Nearly every session there is a game that I reckon my team would have forfeit yet we went on to win, sometimes a lot more than one game. Overall I think the impact of a surrender/forfeit function would be detrimental so it’s a no from me.
That is my experience from games that I have played with the feature. It is a great idea in an ideal world, as most of them are. It’s just that the average player would abuse the tool and it generally leads to a more negative experience as it signals that someone has already given up. Not only that, but I find that Overwatch is a heavily momentum based game to begin with. And the match length is not particularly long unless you are going back and forth to begin with. Those are not matches people would typically want to surrender and therefore they are not particularly relevant. Most people want to leave the games where they are locked out of participation, but those tend to end quickly unless it is Control/Flashpoint.
It should at least be trialled.
No. You don’t know a game is over until the 3rd fight. If it is a game of QP then that means the game is over in about 1-2 minutes anyway (otherwise it isn’t a stomp) so it’s not a worthwhile feature.
This is not LoL where a game can be unwinnable at the 10m mark but won’t end for another 30m. The minute or two saved is not worth building a feature around.
I would never trust this community with a surrender function. While most will play their best until the end we have all encountered those players that give up right away or actively troll.
Think about it rationally. Games last for 5 minutes on average. 10 to 15 minutes for a compa match. A tight match can drag on for about 10 minutes.
When would a surrender option even be available?
2 minutes into a match? 2 minuted and 30 seconds into a match(IE half of the average match time for most maps and modes.) 4 minutes in to deny any sort of comeback play for a team?
Like when would the option be appropriate?
I don’t really see a surrender option for OW or games like this in general.
I think some mobas have the option, and I understand, cuz I think those matches usually last about half an hour.
A surrender option could work for comp, but only be usable if there are already leavers on your team.
It shouldn’t be something that you can just spam straight out of spawn just because there’s an enemy you don’t want to fight.
The surrender option could offer a partial sr protection when used, but for it to not be abused there should be some changes made.
If you play as a group, you can’t leave the game without your group. At which point you all get the leaver penalty.
It could minimize leave trading to avoid sr loss when using the surrender option.
Not sure if it would work on qp. The matches don’t even take 10 minutes if they’re stomps, and if they’re not stomps there’s a chance you can win.
So inaccurate….
teammate dies
“Your team has initiated a surrender vote”
They ain’t waiting for no fight to finish…they don’t actually have any fight in them to begin with
Oh yeah my bad.
Team loads in. Spawn doors haven’t opened yet
“Swap Junk/Sym/Rein”
“No”
“Your teammate has initiated a surrender vote”
If we get a surrender button, you should need 4 of 5 people to give up, as well as a 10 min downtime before the first vote.
Depends on game and meta at the moment. There are metas in history that matches lasted 40 minutes.
I think the longest game in league history was around 75 minutes
Edit: sorry, it laste 94minutes, it was 2018 game between SK Telecom T1 and Jin Air in korean league LCK
Haven’t played ”oh crap they scored first, it’s time to surrender” simulator rocket league in a while
I thought more of LoL where you have to have 3 “yes” to surrender and specific conditions in a match or 15 minutes, to be met to be able to start a surrender voting. But LoL games can be 40+ minutes and stomps in OW are like 5 mostly… so there is no real reason.
Yes, ow2 matchmaking is very sucks, i mostly played like againts pro player, their really beat me my team just in a minute, like wtf, what matchmaking is this, the developer can’t make better matchmaking, so i agree there must be a surender button, so we can find a fair match
Teammate sees a junk main
“A surrender vote has been initiated”
Gets declined
“Gg teams holding me hostage” plays battle Mercy in gm
I cant imagine Winston pressing such botton , this is so agains lore – we fight or we die
