Should SR be based off of personal preformance?

Just an idea, but when you lose, you shouldn’t always lose 20 SR and when you win you shouldn’t gain 20. If you have all golds and were basically carrying, you should get more and possibly even gain when losing. If you don’t have any medals, are consistently bottom of your team and did nothing, you should not be gaining as much. It is very frustrating to think that you may lose because of someone on your team and you get punished as much as that person, and when you win with a troll or toxic player that person is gaining the same amount of SR as you. This concept could of course be Taylor’s to specific heroes (healers have a high priority to heal and will gain more if they do a lot of healing, tanks gain more if they block a lot/take damage more). All of these values are already recorded by OW so I don’t understand why they don’t use it to help people who get stuck with bad teammates.

Trolls and throwers are on both teams, if you are not a troll/thrower the enemy team will have more than yours on average,

What you describe already exists in part below 3000 SR; personal performance modifies the amount you gain/lost after every match depending on how good or bad you do in the eyes of the game. Not only does PBSR (performance based SR) help reward skilled players stuck in lower tiers, but also minimizes the impact that players like smurfs have because they spend far less time in lower tiers than they would without PBSR.

It used to be like this but it created a bunch of one tricks. by playing just one character and getting really good but only with that character they boosted themselves up to gm with below 50 win rates. This is why it’s gone from diamond and above but it still exists in lower ranks to get smurfs where they belong

It does exist in some sense, but not based on medals. Medals are not a showcase of true skill. I play Sombra. I get bronze medals at best. My team complains about me not inputting enough damage into the barrier, etc… They say I suck at Sombra and should never play her. They say I’m a troll and they tell the enemy team to report me. But even though I don’t continuously shoot into a Reinhardt‘s shield, I hack the Reinhardt granting my team a whole lot of ult charge and granting our Reinhardt a fat shatter. Do I have gold elims or damage? No. Did I single handily win that team fight for my team? Yes. Medals are not a showcase of skill. You think you might be carrying your team, but it could be your teammates good plays that initiate the fight allowing you to put in the damage and get the elims. There really is no such thing as carrying in Overwatch unless you’re a smurf. Don’t act like it’s your teammates fault. It’s yours and yours alone.

funny how removal of performance SR created even more one-tricks.

The only known instance of that was Mercy players farming Resurrections. That was really a problem, and Blizzard fixed it even before butchering her ultimate her rework.

This hoax started when someone found out a Sombra player in GM with 35% winrate, but that player explained his unique situation a few days after the news exploded. His answer never reached the same audience the hoax reached: https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/6wbor3/sombra_main_made_it_to_4255_sr_with_only_35/

I really do NOT see why SR shouldn’t be performance set. “The purests” in this game believe otherwise. The bottom line is, SR should be personal performance because most of us don’t have but 1 or 2 friends on this game that are reliable. So we are having to PUG.

This game has no effective way of forming a “clan” or a “guild” to become social, so pugging for comp is all you can do really. Even the most social hangout which is “Skirmish before match”, is controlled and you may only be in there for a short time.

I partially agree with that statement. But, how would you measure performance?

Having a statistical equal spread of trolls/leavers/throwers in both teams is a lousy argument.

This forum: “We need to get rid of PBSR to stop one tricks to climb and ruin our games when they belong in bronze”

Also this forum: “We need to implement PBSR because I’m not where I should be, and that’s my teammates’ fault.”

Also this forum: “We need to remove PBSR because I’m lower than I should be, and that’s the system’s fault.”

Below diamond rank this is exactly how the system works. Your SR gain/loss is determined whether you won or lost and then how you performed compared to others playing the same character at that rank.

For instance this season I have gained as much as 31 for a game or as little as 19 for a win. For a loss I have lost as much as 26 and as little as 14.

My advice would be to check out sites like overbuff where you can compare your stats to others to see where you can improve.

I think they could find a way to tailor it to certain hero’s. For example, if a healer does lots of healing and gets a lot of assists, then they should get more than a DPS Moira who is using the hero wrong and hurting the team.

Too some extend I say yes.

I have had sabotage ppl who troll with zero kills and a sim tele to the void before. They should lose a ton of SR whereas the ppl who stay and get kills should lose less.

Same things with disconnects: if you had almost no kills you should lose like 100 SR

not all tanks can block damage and not all healers can heal a lot.
but yeah i personaly dont think that anyone should lose sr on a loss… only leavers should lose it.
but punishing a team b taking it sr away cuz they lost is no fun and unfair cuz so the other team is a little better, or u got placed with a newbie to the game or you just having a bad gaming day so punishing for that is harsh, theres no game that takes aways point on a loss unlike overwatch.
yes winners should be rewarded but losers should not be punished (ex: in the olympics they dont punish the ppl who lost, they lose but they dont gain anything and no one takes away from them anything, same with sports like basketball, football and etc.)
if overwatch is part of esports is the same as a season sports games but for pc gaming XD
