Should some DPS move categories?

This would help a great deal in evening out the roster.

Tank

  • Doomfist
  • Mei

Doomfist is a very brawly hero, so the shift into the tank role could be made without the need of many significant changes.

Mei has often been described as a “pseudo tank” and the idea of tank Mei has been spoken about by the devs before.

Support

  • Sombra
  • Symmetra

Both of these heroes are utility focused. In higher tiers of play, the driving factor in picking them is for their utility rather than damage output. Sounds an awful lot like a Support

With these shifts, the roster is split 10/13/9 and with more healers/tanks confirmed coming with OW2, the split would be closer to even.

The biggest problem with Supports is that they need to have some form of healing. Perhaps Sombra could choose to hack enemies or hack allies to heal with a lower cooldown? Maybe Sym has healing turrets or her beam has a healing alternative? just spit balling.

I am in favor of these ideas as well, perhaps transitioning Bastion into the Tank role as well…

I think a neat way Sombra could have a support-ish power would be that she could use her Hack on an ally instead of an enemy if she chooses, and it will cut, maybe 10% off cooldowns when used? Like an instantaneous effect when applied.

Probably Torb to Offtank too. Mei and Doom are possibly good choices. Doom is already on the verge when he hits a bunch with his shield overload.

Symmetra is the first choice for support, followed by Sombra as both being offhealer utility heroes.

This options would open up the stale tank and support choices, and maybe help dealing with the DPS category being overpicked and probably even Q times.

might as well just play an open queue game? i mean i like the idea but thats basically making it semi-open queue?

Sombra already feels more like a support than Zen

Doomfist and Mei should deffinatly change to the tank roster after a fitting rework. Some ppl bring up Bastion and Brig too sometimes, but the first I have no idea how and Brig is a support that is needed imo in a allrdy small roster.

Symmetra should deffinatly get a rework back into a support. I rly can’t see Sombra as an Support however with her current playstyle.
Also Echo for Support would be appreciated imo.

I am heavily opposed the idea of reclassifying characters
For instance, I’m a Sombra main and I enjoy her for being a utility DPS, there’s so much more to her then just shooting people like McCree, for her to be reworked into a support and changed drastically would be taking away a hero that I love playing, there’s no way a support Sombra would play the same as a DPS Sombra

But the big issue is and what people don’t realise, is the amount of time it would take to properly redesign a character, no matter what it’s not just a “few simple changes”.
Sym was the only exception because she was already played as a DPS, no matter what iteration she fitted better in the damage role then support role

It would just about be easier (and far more beneficially) to straight up make a new character, a character that doesn’t have to fit in an already designed character, a new character that will get hype and bring attention towards the game.

It’s also worth noting that nearly every support/tank post-release has been OP and basically broke the game and had a huge negative impact on the competitive side (I think this is why Blizzard keep making new DPS heroes because they generally don’t have the same issue), so trying to rework a character into one of these roles with it being viable but not OP is also going to be incredibly difficult

I’d like genji to be a tank…

I don’t really want Doomfist to be more of a brawler and with the team. I haven’t really seen a rework that doesn’t remove his identity and reason to play him. Which is high mobility and huge burst.

I don’t really play Mei so I can’t say much, but I think it would be pretty cool.

he isn’t a brawl hero
currently he is run into them stall for .1 seconds and get out before they kill you since you can’t boop people anymore

I agree with this
I think these 4 heroes could all do allot better in the tank/support role respectively
Blizzard has nerfed every part of mei except for her wall so she is essentially a tank
while I hate mei, always will forever due to people throwing with her and walling their teamates off I still think moving her to the tank role would be good
the only Idea I have that might be cool is removing her secondary high damage blasts but buffing her primary. making it so it doesn’t freeze but slow people down by allot sort of like zarya but with less damage.
Doom should be a tank always should have still should be.
Sombra and Sym should also both be supports
I think they would need much larger changes than doomfist and mei but I think it could be cool

Symmetra is already a taxibot support and used for nothing else, so this is just redundant.

If anything, Symmetra needs to be reworked into the DPS she was before the taxibot rework.

Then remove his extra HP survivability and CC.

He will never be allowed to be strong if he gets the benefits of both a brawler AND a flanker.

I am not in favor of moving heroes into different roles. How would this move benefit them. I see this as people just wanting to move undesirable heroes into other roles as if that will fix anything.

Mei as a tank would need significant changes beyond just giving her more HP. Mei as an off tank would need off tank level of lethality like Hog and Zarya. I doubt players would like a more lethal Mei since they do not like her currently. Then the nerfs will roll in and she will be a bottom tier tank the same way as she was in the dps role.

Anyone that wants Mei as a tank is really just fishing for her to get nerfworked, but will complain 10 times more once Mei gets the buffs/rebalance required to be an off-tank.

What??? Pssshhhhh Symmetra a taxi bot? Lies…

I can only dream

The niches and strengths of these heroes could really be embraced if they just moved roles, instead of eternally being in a state of unviability.

Because if these heroes were given the significant buffs they deserve in their current roles - everyone would want to die.

How about:

we don’t rework him.

idk I wouldn’t want Doomfist on my team as a tank and I can’t imagine wanting a Sombra over a healer as a support.
