Conscious choice is a big part. Consciously choosing to play poorly is throwing. Doing your best but playing poorly is just a bad game.
One tricking is a conscious decision. Your ability to one trick is entirely dependent on your ability to avoid people that are exactly like you; that is someone one tricking the same hero as you. If you are unable to do so, due to the very nature of the one hero limit, you are forced to no longer be a one trick. If everyone one tricked, competitive would be no different from quickplay.
When you do have the misfortune of being placed on a team with someone that one tricks the same hero as you, you MUST play another hero. At that time, practically speaking, you might as well be playing a boosted account. The SR matching algorithm is completely thrown out of whack as you cannot perform at that SR on any other hero. This is made worse if your one trick hero has few transferable skills.
Why one trick in comp? If you say itās due to differences between the games you play in comp vs QP then you are simply taking advantage while contributing little as that difference is largely because the large majority of people playing competitive donāt one trick. As I said, if they did, there would be no tangible difference.
Nah, no sympathy for one tricks. At all. You make a selfish choice to play a team based game, live with the consequences.
Yes, unless you one trick a meta hero, then the meta hero should have say over what everyone plays and does.
Nah, one tricking a meta hero doesnāt save you. You just canāt do it as easily, as there will be many times someone else picks your hero forcing you to play something else.
Try one tricking Sym when someone with a faster computer locks the hero before you do out of spite. Good luck.
āOne tricking is selfishā
One tricking is selfish if you play offmeta heroes************************** fixed for you
youāre not gonna report a one trick mercy or rein main, be real

I donāt report anyone for one tricking. God knows I donāt appreciate being RNGd into a team with 2+ Mercy one tricks. Very few people do.
To be honest it really depends on the situation
I was being sarcastic. Thereās a double standard to one tricking, thatās all I meant. A symm will get reports until ban, a junk or 76 will not. This is coming from a one trick, and the reports are before the doors open, so there is no opportunity for a off meta one trick to even have a chance.

No because people shouldnt have the power to bully you into hero picks they want to have via report system.
This will be abused to ban off meta picks and enforce meta slavery.

This is true. Off meta is most definitely punished more severely by the community. Nothing can be done about that really.
Ranked is not about playing as a team, ranked is a mode to win games, so you should always play your best hero for the situration even if its always Symmetra because you have 0 aim.
What should be reportable&bannable is when you main a hero with 50% winrate or higher that fits in the match and you dont play him. (Example: You main Hanzo at 55% WR and your team has a Zarya. The enemy team runs dive. You pick Widow instead of Hanzo -> Ban)
Can someone ever broach this topic without bringing up Sym or Torb?
Thatās ridiculous. My best hero rn is Tracer. If I were to one trick them rn then Iād totally expect people to be angry with me, and it doesnāt help my team much. Iām not as good at Zarya or Zen compared to my Tracer, but I get a LOT more done on them then I can on Tracer in this meta.

My 2 cents:
One-tricking should not be bannable. Playing any hero should not be bannable. If a person belongs at a lower rank, they will be there, and not Masters or GM with you.
I am not a fan of the mob mentality. People with hardly any experience are quick to force their views on you in comp, and in general always want the āotherā to blame. Allowing one tricks to be a bannable offense in my opinion opens the door to having people who arenāt playing meta to be liable to get reported and banned also.
Personally, as a bit of anecdotal evidence. Iām not an one-trick by no means. I can play a few heroes. And that is it. Yet even I was accused of not being flexible enough and that my team had to play around me.
Iām sorry, people really do expect too muchā¦

The topic is irrelevant if it doesnāt
sym, torb, and bastion are the main reason one tricking being reportable was ever a thing
because these are like the only 3 heroes who require the entire team to build around them and if they donāt and the enemy has 1 or 2 of their counters theyāre completely useless and a majority of those 3 one tricks do not switch off no matter what, like steevo, which is why he was banned over 10 times, not because he was just playing sym, because he literally never switches when his team needs him to
Then just rework the 3 characters into viable status. It doesnāt matter if the sym, torb, bastion is a one trick or not, your team will probably lose.
In the same mode where everything has to be meta?
Iām sorry to say but this is what the report system is used for. I deal with it daily. And mostly itās pick mercy or rein which is bs, because no one wants to play them so they black mail the off meta into playing them. Which is fine for me because I suck at both so they get to see that not everyone can play them
Should it be bannable if a player flexes between Sym, Torb, and Bastion?
all 3 of them are weak to Pharah well maybe not bastio- actually no if a Pharah is smart and out of Bastionās range she hard counters him unless he has shields
junkrat too sorta counters all 3
winston only counters sym and torb to some extent
tl;dr im not saying it should be bannable but like those 3 share a lot of the same counters so switching between them is almost the same as staying the same hero
You guys do realize that right now anyone that isnāt Rein, Zarya, Hanzo, Brig, Zen, Mercy, and say Widow is considered off meta rn right? Soldier 76 has had lower pickrates than Sym at GM.
