Should one hit kills be removed from the game?

Its not really fun to experience and some heroes (like the widow) are completely dependent on it to become viable. And please note I am talking about your average players, I have no interest in the OWL or the top 500 SR players and their skills.

Someone getting 1 shot killed from across the map is not fun and a widow player who fails to get those head shots completely inconveniences their team.
There are other one shot hit skills like Doomfist or Rein but generally there are ways of getting away from them in time when you notice they are coming at you or while playing as them there is strategy and positioning involved in doing them.

But Widow and to a lesser degree Hanzo? Completely different scenario. While playing as them you are staring through the scope to get that one shot kill. Meanwhile playing against them you are trying to find where they are before they shut you down in an instant.
In the entire game there are no other heroes that are played this way. Widow especially has her entire kit revolved around that 1 shot kills gameplay.
There should not be a hero that completely shuts down the fun for the entire enemy team (if they are good) or are so utterly useless for their own team that they may as well not be there (if they are bad).

Hanzo had a good fix with the rapid arrow that now allows him to move away from the situation that widow is in right now. Hopefully OW team gives her a rework so she can be more interesting to play as or against her.

The problem with widow and her one hit kills is just cus she can kill things with 1 round from the other side of the map in a game where nothing else can even hit you. Widow just shoots fish in a barrel in Overwatch, that’s her issue. One hit kill snipers in other games ain’t no big deal because anyone can do it and there’s no limitation to how many pal can do it at once

It is really satisfying to pull one off though. So I think it should stays, since the majority of one shot takes a lot of skill to do.

I’m honestly getting tired of the whiny un fun posts. Here’s my list of unfun for you.

Doomfist right clicks
Mei freeze
Widow headshot
Spamzo Headshot
tracer blinks
Rein and Orisa shields
Sombra hacks
Torbs Turret
Phara
Brig Stuns
Moira
Junkrat spam
Sym Turrets
McCree Flashbang
Roadhog Hooks
Ana sleeps
Lucio Boops
Rein Charges

I think thats about all. I find all this Un fun. But so what? honestly. Stop with this un fun whiny BS and play the game, stop being a baby … mommmy it’s un fun when i get shot in the head… mommy its unfun when I get hacked… Just stop.

I’m fine with high burst if it requires putting yourself into immediate danger, like Doomfist diving in or when Torbjorn gets a nice point-blank right click that melts a squishy.

Unfoutunatly thats how these games work though. Balance from the top down

3 bullets you uncultured swine

They didn’t do that for hog. They balanced from the bottom up on that one

100% yes.

One hit kills are not fun to be on the side of, in fact, they’re the most rage inducing thing in the game. I feel like no player should be able to go from 100% health to zero in a situation where the enemy is across the map. In your face / in your LoS is completely different and is fine, IMO.

I think they should retool Widow and make her based more on the spider of the same name.

My idea for Widow:

Primary Fire - Widow’s Kiss - Assault: No Changes

Alternate Fire - Widow’s Kiss - Bite: Widow enters sniper mode and can shoot characters from across the map, injecting them with venom causing them to take 150 damage over 10 seconds (15 per second) and preventing healing for 5 seconds. (this is flavor and enables Widow to still serve her role of neutralizing targets by making them weaker for her team to pick off)

L-Shift - Webbing: shoots a synthetic spiderweb like rope from her arm which can target an area or a player. If Widow hits an area, she’ll be pulled to that area and will “stick” there until she moves. She can fire from that area. If hits a player, they’ll be rooted for 2 seconds and then slowed for 2 more. 8 second cooldown. (this is flavor and also provides Widow with a way to get to better heights for shooting and also to protect herself from opponents)

E - Shadowstalk: fades into the shadows and hides from sight. Cannot be detected by enemies / contest while in this mode. Gains the ability to see enemies through walls. Deactivates upon moving or entering fire mode. 10 second cooldown. (just something for survivability)

Ultimate - Siphon Soul: Widow latches onto a nearby target and siphons their life, recovering her health to full (the enemy loses the same amount as she was damaged) then she gains increased damage and regeneration for 8 seconds.

Passive - Preservation: gains movement speed when damaged.

No, as long as an element of risk is involved - such as being dived or putting yourself in the middle of the enemy team. Being able to one shot without any risk, however, is something that should NOT be in the game.

While we’re on the topic of unfunness

god forbid the red Mercy presses E

Can you feel the sheer amount of sodium chloride pumping through my veins through your screen? I hope so.

Not 100% true. When I was working on learning her, I noticed that I had the issue with not dinking every single thing on my screen, so I focused on aiming at people who were already fighting a teammate or someone who was low HP that I could kill with a body shot.

As for 1 shot characters, it depends. With a widowmaker or a hanzo, I like the idea because it forces me to respect their space.

I play a lot of tracer so I know what i’m talking about when it comes to getting 1 shot.

But I think it is important to force players to get better.
