Should I do it?

As a tank one trick, should I actually try comp? I’m just hitting a point where I want to see what all the fuss is about in terms of the players, environment.

I just… ugh… the matches last so long :sob:

I was a Lucio one-trick but even I’d say nope. Not worth it to play tank even if you don’t mind swapping.

I’m with you OP. I cant go back to comp, the matches are insufferably long. On an escort map, if both teams push all the way, kiss an hour of your life goodbye.

And for what exactly? A temp title no one cares about? A shiny gun that no one cares about too?

Theres just 0 incentive for me personally to go back.

Yeah even if it means potentially seeing the “defeat” screen more often, I’d still rather have shorter games.

Especially if you get caught up in a match where it seems like nothing you do is going to help or change the outcome, but you’re stuck in an extra long game just waiting til it’s over… sounds damn near the opposite of ‘fun’ haha

No. Stick to playing QP/arcade like me. It is not worth it.

The only thing you discover in comp that can’t be found in QP is the stress of having to stay on the same team against the same enemies for twice as long.

Yes indeed. Bad teammates for twice as long, or even longer? Sign me up!

I respect those who are all about the grind, but good lord, what a grind it is. I cant enjoy myself playing that way. I want to have a good time, not grind my fingers off playing just 3-4 matches for 90+ minutes. Eck

Go to the bathroom, feed the cat and you ready to go

Yes, comp is better.

Mute chat though. People are mentally insane and it comes out in comp. You don’t need to hear it. Plug it back on when/if you reach D2.

And of the love of god, don’t get anxious or take it so seriously. You’re allowed to lose or make mistakes, the elo is just there for matchmaking.

Also don’t take your first ranking seriously, it’s not accurate before you play at least 50 games.

This is only true for hybrid and escort. 2cp is removed and the new game modes are the same length as in quickplay.

Why not? I hope you have a thick skin though. The flaming is unreal but you get used to it, it kinda fuels me at this point.

I mean that’s kind of why I’m interested… believe it or not, I’ve matured quite a bit (I think ) since I started playing this game. I realized I’m far beyond the point where my skill/rank in OW is something I wear on my sleeve or treat with any form of seriousness.

With that in mind, I figured now would be a great time to try it… but having to mute everyone seems lame, but if its what I have to do, I’ll give it a shot.

If you have a thick skin and wont tilt from reading/hearing absolute primal toxic stupidity, keep it on, but don’t engage with these people. It’s like engaging with feral chickens on mdma.

Also they’ll always blame you. Your support will walk into widow’s los that hasn’t changed position in 5 hours, always die first and it’ll be all your fault as tank.

Dps ults when his entire team is dead? Your fault as tank
Ana missed her sleep? - your fault
Tracer engaged enemy without recall? Your fault
Pharah got pinned by Rein? - Your fault, tank diff.
It’s always the tanks fault.

As a tank one trick you mostly need to learn the bad match ups, and what to save and force out.

Like d.va vs zayra you can just sit on the high ground, shoot her till she bubbles, shoot something else till the bubble is gone. Repeat for second bubble. then just blow in some missile damage.

Rien can for example use flanks to start a fight right next to the enemy team and not waist his barrier pushing into say a orisa.

Which in turn allows you to just save the barrier to wait out fortify, that you can then just point blank charge. Which will eat her armor or throw her off the map depending on the map.

However…

You always have the option to just shoot the rest of the enemy team. And killing any dps/support will just get you a hard advantage. And letting your team know your focusing on such will just get you free kills and easy team fights early on in the round when ults are not in play.

if you can nail down these two aspects, you will have no issue in comp.

Have a great day now.

Yeah I mean this happens in QP regularly enough, even when I’m not playing poorly and it’s not upsetting/offensive, but it just makes me scratch my head.

I hear a lot of people say that comp is far less toxic, but, I can also see how the tank would end up shouldering a lot of the blame, regardless.

Not in plat. If you end up in plat you have my deepest condolences as a tank player.

Last time I played was, I think, season 13 in OW1 and I ended up at Plat.

I’m speculating I’ll end up somewhere in Silver, but even that might be a bit gracious on my part.
