Hi.
I’m using the 1060 graphics card along with an i7-7700k processor on a 60Hz monitor.
The question is, should I cap my FPS at 60 or let it go as high as it can? For the past few months I’ve been playing on low settings which allowed me to reach ~300 FPS, but I heard that it’s bad for my fans? What should I do?
Thanks.
hello,
i have a 144 hz monitor and have it capped at 154(display based) which means ~6.5ms of GPU lag
if you have a 60hz monitor you have ~16.67ms with vsync and display based it is ~14ms so if you uncap it has tearing but reduces input lag

hope i can help you out
Personally i would cap my fps at 120 or 150 and turn on reduced buffering. This will give you a lot of reduced input lag while at the same time dropping power used, heat produced, and fan noise. The video linked above shows why you want to go above 60fps on a 60hz monitor in a fps game but there are dimmishing returns on input lag reduction at higher fps and reduced buffering makes it even more so.
