I’ve seen a lot of people complaining that Echo is a damage instead of a support. I would’ve liked Echo to be a support, but it didn’t happen. The devs made her a damage, I understand that. What I don’t understand is why so many people are still upset about it. We got Sigma and Baptiste, a healer and a tank. It’s only fair that we get a dps. I am a support player myself, I would’ve loved a new hero to play. So I guess what I’m asking is what do you want Echo to be? Damage or Support?
Damage…
Its not about fairness. We have too many dps hero options compared to tanks and supports.
We suffer from high queue times because most people play dps as it has the most to offer and is the most exciting to them.
Just looking at the numbers tanks and supports need to play catch up. Echo didnt fill a spot which was missing and needed. Its just a fun idea which is nice to have, but there was no necessity to it.
On the other hand we just need more support and tank options.
Echo honestly should have been a support. Her ultimate is basically the role of flex support before 2/2/2 was forced. Being able to switch to any hero the team needs at a moments notice. We’ve seen the likes of Jehong, Bani and Jjonak switch off support many times to play things like Mei and Sombra. Utility dps the team needed last minute.
As well, it gives competition to Zen and Lucio, who have been staple hero’s through every meta ever due to the necessity of their defensive ultimate’s. You would have this Support who can do their ultimate without forcing a mirror match that’s caused the meta to become stale countless times.
Her E, the 50dps beam that does 4x damage on anything half health, including barriers is broken. Would have made more sense to have it heal 50hps and x2 that to any team mate that’s critical.
Her primary alone is a 51 damage mid range shotgun that does 204 damage in .33 seconds if crit box. She two taps faster than McCree and with how little her spread actually is on that thing, she even competes with is range. In contrast, had that been a 10-15 damage projectile that acts similar to Ana’s primary un scoped, with something like 15hp, it would give “skill healer” some competition to entice higher elo play to queuing for support.
Her mobility makes her great for keeping up with dive comps, she meshes well with Mercy, who can then output enough healing together to build a team comp off of. And her mobility would have made her great for contesting high ground from snipers, finally putting a deterrent from Widow or Hanzo in the support role.
Her right click. 180 splash damage on 6 seconds. There is no reason for that kind of burst damage in the game right now. Right click and her E beam combined is broken. It’s a nuke to any 200hp hero. Meanwhile, had you made it low damage on a longer cooldown, suddenly it’s high burst in respect to giving a support some respect instead of them always being a free kill. Even better, make it utility. Give it a longer cooldown and give it anti heal properties in any area it lands. Suddenly Bionade has comeptition. Or give the sonic arrow treatment so your team has an idea of where the enemy is coming from without the need of Hanzo or Widow all the time.
This is just her abilities mind you. Her lore is a whole different story. Scientist helps create the robot apocalypse with a bunch of killing machines, wants to make people see artificial life can be so much more… goes on to create an even better killing machine? She literally made echo into a weapon in her current state.
There are other damage heros, that we could move over.
Damage.
We don’t need more supports because adding more doesn’t really translate to more viable options when the current problem is DPS and tank balance favoring certain team comps and strats.
Damage.
Damage
She “should” be exactly how the developers designed her
Damage, because I understand human’s selfish behaviour and playing Support Echo has a DPS and using her Ult to became a DPS hero. You’re just going to hear a lot of complaining about not getting any heals.
The other reason why she is not a Support hero is due to the inconsistency of using her to heal from a distance. The other reason is if she’s in the air, she’s an easy target to hitscan, forcing you to play her on ground level, completely defeating the purpose of her kit.
The final reason ties more with the first reason. Transforming into a DPS hero from a healer is essentially throwing. You’re a squishy healer transforming into a squishy DPS will result in your team losing a healer for 15s. While you are in her ult state, most player gets overly aggressive with her ult, resulting in her death most of the time before they can even get her transformation ult. You can imagine how much you’re giving up with using her ult. You can transform into a Tank, but I doubt the solo remaining healer will have fun trying to keep 3 tanks alive for 15s while they are being focus on by the enemy flankers/snipers.
As of right now, the most popular usages of Echo is to transform into a Tank for CC ult or Healer for defensive ult. Damage player does not lose much when they transform into a Tank, because Tank damage actually rivals many DPS damage. Transforming into a healer is more of a clutch move when your team lost all your support.
Unless they change her ULT, she should remain Damage. The Devs concerns that her ULT will force solo tanking or solo supporting during its duration is valid.
Besides, maybe some DPS players will Duplicate some Tanks or Supports and actually get a taste for those roles.
Wishful thinking, I know
I would like to see a support variant of Tracer where you blink around to heal, and her ultimate is a healing pulse bomb, but I’m concern of Tracer mains player the support variant as a DPS hero too.
It’s not about echo
Let her be dps most of us don’t care about that
The problem is we have a few supports and also tanks comparing to 17 dps
They should give us more new tanks and supports and less new dps until we have a lot tanks and supports not necessary to be equal to dps but to be close to it
Damage…
making Echo support would conflict with Mercy the most popular support hero in the game, and i think they want to avoid a scenario where there are two supports flying around.
Echo should be Echo.
I don’t care either way, but I feel it’s better she’s a DPS it just means more resources are going to be put into OW2 Heroes
I would’ve been perfectly happy with her as a support, but I always thought she would be so much cooler as a DPS (And she is imo )
At first I was disappointed she wasn’t a support. But seeing her in action makes me glad she’s a dps. She looks fun as hell. Now though, I wish she hadn’t been released yet in favor of a support.
Because my main issue with her release, the negative impact coming from dps queue times, doesn’t actually mean that Echo needs to be a support.
I also felt better about it after mulling over Geoff’s explanation. I’m glad they put that out there.
Support
or
Give me back sym reworked as a healer. It isn’t right for them to take a hero from another role without replacing them.
I say support, her ult could have been tweaked to copy only other ults instead of full characters but alas, this version works just as well… the timing of it though, no, not at all
Support
Lower her overall damage
Change the beam into a heal effect rather than damage
And there ya go
A good flex support that lets DPS and Tank players utilize the support role, ontop of adding a much needed layer to the support role as well.
The whole “Her ult doesn’t fit the support role” excuse is VERY weak, when heroes like Sombra, Symmetra, Roadhog, and Mei exist
