Okay there’s a brand new map, not even out for a week, because of the special weighting towards new maps it shows up almost every other poll. I played it once at the start of the season, and figured yesterday I wanted to play it one more time so I could see the control points I didn’t see the first time.
It took around 5-6 hours of playing this weekend to get 1 match on it, with at least me voting for it each time it showed up. That’s how few people are voting for it.
If people care this little about new maps, should blizzard even bother making them? Feel that manpower would be better spent literally anywhere else at that point? Thing with maps is that once there are enough good ones for each mode, then more is nice, but not really a huge deal, and it also adds a risk because adding a mediocre map actively hurts the game
Like I always thought it was a little foolish in the earlier days of OW2 when they thought a new map was enough content to carry a season, but I didn’t realize people cared this little.
That’s what happens when you let the gamers decide. They don’t know what they want, neither what makes a game worth playing.
If developpers listened to gamers back then, we’d still be playing another iteration of Pong.

It seems common among most fps that maps tend to get worse longer into the games lifespan. Not sure why but I’ve always felt games should just stop making maps after a certain point because it dilutes the rotation and keeps fan favorite maps from being played more often.

The map looks great, but it being flashpoint pretty much doomed it from the getgo. If it were Hybrid or Escort you’d probably see it a lot more.

Why do people keep regurgitating this take?
It has nothing to do with the map and it has everything to do with the fact that it is flashpoint. I see OW2 maps win countless times, when they aren’t push or flashpoint. The real problem is the amount of time they’ve spent on adding all these maps for these unloved gamemodes, instead of making more maps for the modes they know people like.
OW1 went years with just koth, hybrid / payload, and 2cp. And it was fine. In just a couple years of OW2, they’ve tried introducing 3 new gamemodes, and all of them suck. That’s the problem.

I have not seen it eligible for a vote even once. I have not played either reworked map yet, but to be fair, I did not vote for them. I would totally vote for Atlantis if it came up.
The reworks aren’t coming until the midseason patch btw

Oh, wow, thanks for the heads up. Now I REALLY won’t vote for them.

I do believe it’s because people are not the biggest fans of flashpoint, or at the very least prefer other modes. That said I’ve had a very different experience, this is the map I’ve probably played the most since Tuesday. Sometimes I voted for it, other times I didn’t. Often it had either most votes, or like 3+ to have a decent chance of being picked.
Because the new map is bad
Unless you want to play the same hyper mobile tanks
And the same best 4 dps
And the same 4 supports

I’m sure it isnt the map, ut’s the mode flash point that the majority of players don’t want to play.

I wouldn’t know. It’s straight up not in the 6v6 OQ pool. I’ve played hours and hours long sessions, and, corroborating with other posts, can say it does not exist.
You can bet I’m not going to play 5v5 for a Flashpoint map, too.

Blizzard developed it for a gamemode nobody cares about.
If it were are hybrid/escort map it would get picked much frequently.
Heck if it were a push map it would be picked much more too.
Blizzard trying to give us new jnfun modes is the problem.
They should stick to whats working and experiment in there.
E.g. hybrid maps with differnt flows, like 1 control 1 → push 1-> control 2
But flashpoint and clash maps will always underperforme.
Stil mad that 2cp got changed into clash… rather have them as hybrid maps.

i have the complete opposite experience, i’ve played aatlis 2x the next most common map or something.
17x aatlis so far and next is Runasapi at 9x.
Majority of players do not like flashpoint or push.
If anything, we prefer escort over it all.

It’s both. Flashpoint is awful, and the new map is confusing and awful. I’ve played 2 and a half games on it and I’m already sick of it

I suppose it’s partially because it’s flashpoint. People would only care less if it was clash.
A new escort, hybrid, cp and even push might get more people playing.

I got it 10 times out of 50 QP games.
Probably a you-issue? Definitely not enough to conclude:
like lol
The real question is whether Blizzard should just delete Flashpoint

Or they could experiment like they’re doing, but then if it’s not working just throw it into the bin.
I’d be fine with that as well, but Blizzard just has this cosmic inability to walk back on anything whatsoever so we’re stuck with failed experiments for years.

The OW team indirectly already shut off map developoment by introducing map bans.
New maps will be almost impossible to be played unless they’re Escort or Hybrid, in the future.
The best thing they could do is release a temporary Arcade game mode with the new map at display for us to be able to play it. They did at some point but stopped for some reason… ?
The best fix would be to simply remove map bans ASAP but that ain’t happening now that the toxic playerbase got a taste for power and grew addicted to overpowering players that don’t like playing Escort and Hybrid only.
It’s too late. Pandora’s box has been opened, whatever they decide now will only lead to more dividing the already very divided community.
No idea how they could clean the mess they made… Maybe creating more QP lobbies without map bans but this would mean skyrocketing queue times…
