Should a game make you this angry?

I have been playing since the game came out. But in the last year I have found myself getting more and more angry when play the game. I scream at the screen ,sometime bite my hands or arms in anger. This is REAL anger, stab you in the eye with a fork sort of anger. Something I have never experienced anywhere else in my life.

Mostly this is when things are out of my control. Either from crowd control or other players not playing like they should. Or just straight up lies because of Lag.

Should I stop playing this game?

Being Level 2100 ish, I feel if i stopped it would be a shame, but at the same time, this sort of anger can’t be good.

Not sure if troll post, but if for real I would say anything that makes you this angry is unhealthy for you, and you likely also have things to address that have nothing to do with Overwatch.

You should definitely take an extended break from Overwatch if you’re getting to that point. As frustrating as this game can be and mostly is, it should never be enough to push someone to the point you’re describing. I’m not going to try evaluating you or making an internet diagnosis, but this game should really be here to distract you from whatever underlying issues you may have going on.

Games are meant for fun, not to exacerbate anger issues.

As a great forum kid once said:

Calm down…

Seriously tho, if your are expecting you team to play a certain way, then you are doing it wrong. SoloQ is all about playing in a reactive way, not an expectant way. To deal with the random nature of other people online, you have to watch what they do and try to play around them, instead of expecting them to play the exact way you think they should.

I don’t even speak anymore.

well, this was a can of worms you shouldn’t have opened.

it’s only a matter of time before the bads storm in here and start harassing you, claiming that “you’re a toxic piece of crap who is trying to dictate how people play… blah blah blah…you’re the reason you suck… blah blah… people can play how they want… blah blah blah…”

Hey i have a fix… code it yourself… que by yourself more. Problems fixed

I have been playing for about as long if not longer…i found myself geting angry about a year ago at this game then i just realized that the less i worry about others on my team do (ie if they are just positioning wrong or just playing a hero very wrong like a dps moria…) but the less i try to tell others what to do or even worry about it the more fun i have and less angry i get. I play how i know how to play and do my best. Yes i lose and win its very random most times out of mu control but sometimes i win/loss because of a play i did even if it dosnt get noticed as lomg as i have fun thats why i play. When i start getting to annoyed i go play another relaxing game like diabo 3 or something i can just numb the mind with. Hope that helps. Remeber like zarya says…why r u so mad…its only a game.

Again, stop thinking this game is somehow better than any other game you play over the internet, just because it says ‘comp’ and gives you a ‘rank’…that will go a long way.

Your SR does not matter, at all, not to anyone, except you. I get it because it is ‘supposed’ to but that was a commercial to get you to buy the game.

Honestly, I’d just stop playing it if it makes you that angry. To want Overwatch to be something other than it isn’t, even though yeah you’ve been sold the idea that it was, is just going to get you angrier. There’s nothing at the top but less characters played and, from what it looks like on this forum, people who report you for not picking what they think you should pick, and thinking they’re on the verge of being signed to some esport team (which we all know will not happen).

Overwatch is a team game that doesn’t encourage team work very well at all. So, you’re trying to fight the game itself, if you’re going to be annoyed at people doing what they always do on any game…screw with it. You can control what you do, but not what your 5 team mates do, and that’s really all there is to say to it. Just let it go, it’s not that important a game. Biting your hand is a hint that there is a better game out there for you, I think.

Its not the game, its the players.

Some of it has to be the game. When was losing total control of your character ever fun?

Honestly the main thing that makes me angry about this game is the fact that I can get placed in the same game as the most toxic a-holes in the universe and they have an endorsement level of 3-4, but my endorsement level is 2… when I never say anything negative unless someone starts it against me first… the endorsement system is the biggest joke in this game

Should you be getting this angry over a game? No, you should not. Don’t shift the blame - it’s your fault, and you’re scapegoating the game.

Before the Overwatch days, I played League of Legends for anywhere from 3 to 6 hours a day. I grinded ranked mode until I was on the cusp of diamond (the League equivalent of GM). Hundreds of games across roughly 5 years, and I stopped really having fun with the game, it just turned into stress. Even most of the games I won weren’t really so much fun as they were stressing about my rank.

I dropped well over 200 dollars on skins during the course of my time.

I eventually had to quit because both my hands and my computer could no longer handle it. My hands are now permanently ruined. Quitting LoL was very hard, but also worth it. It sounds to me like you’re in a very similar position when it comes to Overwatch.

usually, players acknowledge good performance with endorsement, at least that’s what I noticed on console.

very helpful telling someone the feelings they are experiencing are “wrong”. If you got no idea what’s causing it (for him?) you better off just saying nothing.

…but he said “the game” was causing him to bite himself. Are you saying he’s lying? All I’m saying is that he needs to learn to control his feels, it’s not a game forcing him to bite himself lol

Its not the game, based on what you said you have serious ange issues man, i suggest to visit a doctor, its not normal.

Thanks for your honesty, you’re definitely not alone and I’ve seen the nicest people ever freaking out in this game.

I know what my following comment sounds like and maybe it’s not true or exaggerated. Let’s assume, however, that a game studio wants to make money and the whole concept would collapse if there weren’t enough players or if they didn’t play regularly.

No other game or reallife situation pisses me off like this game. It’s not as bad as you described, but it can create a lot of anger. At the same time I enjoy the game so much that I don’t stop playing completely. It’s right on this line between “The game isn’t worth my time and frustration” and “You’re getting better and better in this game, maybe you have some good games today”.

I think the main trigger for me is the helplessness in 50% of my matches.
If you play long enough, you can predict matches / teams pretty accurately and that’s frustrating.
This game generates cognitive dissonances like no other game. At the same time, it has a high addictive factor.
Through psychological profiling, players are always driven to a tolerable level of frustration over a longer period of time. It is important that a player does not stop playing completely. This is the only way to achieve a higher degree of frustration while simultaneously increasing commitment.

I don’t mean to imply evil intent. But there is a reason why it took 2 years to build and optimize the Matchmaker. The Matchmaker is much more than a system to put together balanced teams and this has strong side effects.

Would it be possible for Blizzard to have built a system that works better than it should?

#End of paranoid comment.#
