Shop items limited availability? Why?

Why are skins/ items in the shop only occasionally available? Erroneously over priced aside, what is the reason for rotating/ time frames for being able to buy a skin? I almost bought the art deco Symm skin but couldn’t.

I believe it creates artificial scarcity for a digital item that otherwise wouldn’t have it. It preys on people’s FOMO to spend money now.

This is exactly it, it gets people tempted to spend money lest it go away forever

They are correct when they say Fear Of Missing Out.
You don’t know when it’s coming back, so your more likely to spend to money to get it since you don’t know when you’ll have another chance

Until you land on the other side of FOMO and refuse to spend a penny more because it’s all nonsense, that is.

I’ll see myself out.

all skins should stay on the shop permanently

Oh absolutely. I personally couldn’t care less about skins. I had almost all from OW1, and i haven’t seen a new one I actually thought was worth the cost, and I doubt I will.

Not caring about skins is oddly freeing in this game

I got the 4th or 5th push mail from blizzard today about their “devilish discounts” so I clicked unsubscribe, then I refreshed the page about 10 times.

I liked seeing the message “We’re sorry to see you go!”
(Barebones HTML page with that single paragraph html element)

That’s what I’m doing.

I no longer feel compelled to obtain the skins like I did in OW1.

That feeling of grinding arcade wins for a few more lootboxes to get that event skin you wanted can’t be replaced by forking out $20 for instant gratification.

Fortnite.

They have websites/apps to track Fortnite shop rotation. Some items have not been seen for years, but you can get notifications if an item you want is available and how much time you have left to buy it.

See now,
this kinda ecosystem just does not make sense to me if players can’t resell items.

meh.

This is 100% why ^^^

in game or out of game 3rd party?

Full transparency here, I would have bought it, but now? Eh, probably won’t be buying anything for this game anymore.

If they want stupid prices for cosmetics, both in and outside of the game and for ingame and/or actual currency I’d say.

Outside of game has never been allowed by games ToS (any games that I know of), albeit it’s never been illegal. It happens.

Not sure about the TOS, but it’s happened before with say, CSGO.
Also TOS are there to follow for the end user, they can be changed willy nilly on the other end, assuming legal signs off on the change.

I was a cosmetic buyer in Overwatch 1. £8 a go for an OWL legendary was fine. However with all of the missteps they’ve been doing and so on, I’m not going to be spending anymore on the game until I see things turn around for the better.

It’s literally to generate FOMO.

It’s been Overwatch’s forte since the release of the first OW1 event.

“Limited time only so play the game right now or miss out”
