Overwatch is a complex game, we all kinda know. Split second decisions make or break the teamfight, strategy and prioritizing abilities and even your individual bullets add up to win the game.
So many of my games, when someone like rein puts up a shield in our teams face, or sigma, or Winston….people almost refuse to shoot the damn shield. If we all focus the shield it goes down in half a second and the agency of the enemy team is reduced drastically. Yes, it is all situational, but as a rule if you do this you create so many more opportunities and force the enemy team to reevaluate or reposition, allowing your own team an advantage. If you don’t shoot the damn shield, you are losing space and agency by the second.
As a side note, zarya is the antithesis of this. Bait her but when you see an opening to shoot her, for the love of all that is holy, blow her up. Forever. Amen.
The time you need to pump in the barrier, standing in LOS of the enemy that shooting back at you. Only really gives an advantage to the person who placed the barrier in the first place.
You can instead use that time to reposition, creating cross fire and limiting the enemies ability to effectively make a kill hall they can just focus fire down.
I agree it is a waste of time if you are the only one focusing it. However…using cover and smart positioning, if we all shot the shield, it creates a big advantage to the team. Sometimes I play with people who get it, and the difference is huge. Sadly it all too rare.
Eh not really no, their is rarely a case where you can shoot a barrier while also not being in lOS of the enemy. Keep in mind their is another human being moving and placing such to get advantages over you.
If you can see it, their is a good chance the person how made such can see you.
At the same time, why bother coordinating a full team push around such.
When you can just ignore almost completely and attack people directly.
The thing players are already doing, without any need to communicate around such.
If anything it just sounds like your out of the loop.
I get what you’re saying and it makes sense to a degree. With so much going on and decisions being made every micro second, I just feel like I’ve had games where everyone knows to punish the rein standing there with his shield up giving agency to his team. Without that shield they are open from the front. Eichebwalde comes to mind especially the first point on attack. The amount of times I’ve seen reins shield just being immortal while my team tries to scurry around the choke instead of gaining control of the choke by forcing the shield down.
You forget the biggest point about shooting shield, that is only healer who can heal through barriers is mercy, when i tanked i always like to LOS supports from my target with a barrier
If you want everyone to shoot the shield… Pick a shield tank. All of a sudden you will find plenty of teams that are competent enough to realize that bursting the shield is the key to success. It’s just unfortunate that they are never on your team and instead you get all the kids with CTE from Reinhardt’s hammer.
Yeah don’t listen to these DPS players telling you to not shoot the shield. This game is about resource management, and squeaking out as much value as you can (at least it used to be). So if they don’t have a shield, that’s a resource they don’t have.
I’m not saying stand in the middle of the open, and do nothing but shoot the shield. But if you tank is fighting on point, and their Winston drops a bubble on him, you shoot that bubble.
If your tank is trying to to make space, and their whole team is just hiding behind a Rein shield, you shoot that Reins shield.
And the fact that these DPS players are telling you to not shoot Shields is why we should not be listening to them on how to balance
