Shield bash breaks brig shield

She uses her shield to stun any and all enemies in the path. It makes sense that it should break her shield, then she can’t just use it on CD and she would actually have to play cautiously. High reward play, high risk involved. She can basically 1v1 any hero that isn’t a tank in ideal conditions. No healer should be able to activate 750 hp essentially on a whim without having risk involved for poor play. If Mccree wastes flash bang, he is extremely vulnerable. If Reinhardt charges, he’s extremely vulnerable, if Ana doesn’t have her sleep dart, she’s extremely vulnerable. In my mind Shield Bash isn’t the problem with brigette, being able to use it for free and sustain after using it is.

I agree with this, but the shield would have to go back to 600 HP and bash may need a small dmg buff.

That… is actually brilliant. High risk high reward. A good shield bash can secure a kill… but those people who are spamming shield bash will be left without a shield and vulnerable more often than not, essentially separating the good brigs from the bad ones, raising her skill cap.

This is one route to go with Brig, instead of removing the stun through barriers, but if it’s chosen then I’d make the following changes:

  • Shield health reverted to 600hp
  • Shield Bash costs 300hp shield health (or until it breaks, which ever happens first)

If you just made it break every time Shield Bash was used, nobody would ever use it. The better option would almost always be to just keep the shield health up. By making it lose a reasonable amount of health, but not all, it rewards those who manage their shield well

Great idea.

What if Brig’s shield took damage equal to the max hp of the bashed target? So if you play backline defender brig you can kill Tracer with 350 shield health remaining but if you bash Rein then bye bye barrier

I could also see some sort of cd reset or reduction based on targets bashed. As in somehow a good Brig could gain a reset or drop a second or two off the cooldown making her able to have stun up more frequently but also need to manage her shield health because if she stuns too much it just breaks. Maybe 1-2 seconds off the cd for a successful stun or an elimination after a stun?

Think about the numbers though, if her shield still had 300 health after the bash, anytime she was able to corner a dps or healer they’d still have to get through 300 hp shield after being stunned and manage to out damage her inspire healing while she’s left clicking them away. I want her to always be viable, but any other healer cornered by another healer or dps hero has to think and react and play responsively. In a 1v1 situation, a brig can control the tempo of it, the initiation, gap the distance, stun, protect herself, heal herself, and stun again. Most Briggs in that close range 1v1 don’t even have to consider evasive strafing or crouching because the odds are so heavily in their favor. For all other heroes there seems to be a lot of play and counter play involved in the 1v1. All heroes should have times when they’re viable at different distances, or heights or behind cover, I know that. However, she doesn’t have any scenario where she’ doesn’t have an advantage against another hero with the exception of widow; who she can still just take cover using shield. That’s just my opinion. Consider tracer, she’s insane at close range but she has a high CD on recall. And when she is forced to use it, she can’t really play aggressive for the duration unless she is risking her life in exchange. And she has 150 hp. Brigg doesn’t risk anything using shield bash and allowing her even 300 shield afterwards still seems like over compensation to me. Especially if we gave her shield as much HP as roadhog has.

There would be no point in using it unless it’s against a Tracer or at low shield health.

You raise a fair point. Maybe have it break fully, but just a 2 or 3 second cooldown on the actual shield (ie not changing the 7s cooldown on SB, that’s fine), and once the shield is available again it’s automatically at full health, instead of requiring recharge

She’s a tank hybrid. She’s not every other healer.

This suggestion destroys her identify much more so than just not having it go through barriers.

I get the reason that people want it to go through barriers, but having it break when it’s used is absurd.

My suggestion would be let it stun through shields but shield bashing deals damage to the shield equal to half the opponents HP. It only stuns if the shield doesn’t break.

Hmmmm how about this:
Barrier Shield: Health increased to 600. When the barrier shield breaks it freezes the cooldown on Shield Bash. Barrier shield cooldown after being broken increases to 4 seconds.
Shield bash: On a successful hit Brigitte’s barrier shield takes damage equal to 2x the bashed target’s maximum health and its cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds.

What this should do is make it impossible for a Brigitte to become an oppressive force with her shield. If a Brig shield bashes a tank, her shield bash goes on (effectively) a 9 second cd (5 seconds for shield bash, 4 seconds for shield) and if she bashes a squishy but uses her barrier to get in that squishy’s face, her barrier will probably break and she’ll again be stuck on a long cooldown.
