Shanghai Dragons—where are they going wrong?

So, since Geguri joined I’ve been rooting hard for them. It’s hard to watch, guys. I hadn’t taken a good look at SHD until paying close attention to Geguri, and she is trying to carry them so hard… She would get both supports and her whole team would die around her. When she stayed back to peel for her supports, her DPS would still die.

I’m wondering where the issue is on their team? I can’t identify in my own games which role is struggling. Diya seems to die first 9/10 fights, is he the issue or the other tank making space? Maybe is it just a teamwork issue? I’m sorry, I really love this team actually, but they are a mess right now… How did they make it to OWL and what is going on with them???

Their supports are so bad. Are they even GM?

This.

They are both top 500 though (FiveKing and FreeFeel) they duo together and I catch them on Calvin’s stream.

The tanks are much improved now, the DPS has never been the issue, but their Supports are easily worst in the league.

Well they just added three new Korean players so communications is probably harder as I think they all have to communicate in English which is nobody’s first language. The Korean players are also in the roles that require the most communication.

In general they just don’t seem to have any communication

It’s been mentioned that having some of the team speak Korean and the other members speak Chinese is a problem. I’d say it’s likely a fundamental problem. Communication in this game, at any level, is critical. Even moreso in OWL.

The other teams are just way better in comparision. The only good DPS they had was Undead and he’s back in China right now on suspension.

Ado is VERY good, from what I saw.

In terms of actual ability I wouldn’t say they’re the worst now. Diya and Ado have both put in good performances, whilst Geguri and Fearless are shining. The prroblems come from 3 things I feel:

1 - They’re basically a new side. Against Dallas 5 of their 6 starters weren’t available at the start of Stage 2. Sky and Daemin have since been dropped, but that’s still half of the starters that are brand new.
2 - Communication problems. Currently they’re running a 3 Chinese, 3 Korean setup, so they’re having to adapt to speaking foreign languages. On top of that, it’s been less than a week that the 6 starters have actually been together, Diya arrived back from China on Friday, so the usual 2DPS+Winston dive has almost no time working together yet.
3 - This is the biggest one. Their supports are just awful. It’s a problem that Florida has too, but at least for them it’s just a matter of Zebbosai and Zuppeh not being at the standard of the rest of the league. With Shanghai? I think they’ve used both support ults at the same time more times than I have on ladder in the same period of time, and I’m Silver. None of their 4 supports are up to the standard required for OWL.
