I think it is very hard to deny that Shadow Step is among the most useless abilities in the game, and pretty much a suicide on E. It’s most reliable usage is coming back from spawn faster, and it’s a waste of an ability near any sort of action.
I think something like Orisa’s Halt is better suited for Reaper. Except it travels a fair amount faster, and pulls Reaper in with the same speed as a Halt pull, regardless of how far Reaper is from the projectile. The projectile is destructable to deny Reaper his ability, I’ll leave the health amount up for debate. Consider a maximum allowable distance for projectile travel too.
Reaper presses E again anytime during the travel time to pull himself to the projectile’s current position. Reaper can throw out the projectile and hide behind a wall, but the moment of the pull Reaper has to come out in LoS with the projectile. If the projectile hits an obstacle or reaches its maximum distance, it fades away and it doesn’t pull Reaper, wasting the ability.
The projectile can pass through shields, bodies, and deflect. It can be eaten by D.Va however. The projectile can be shot down normally otherwise.
It’s a hybrid between Halt, Translocator and Moira’s orbs.
You can name the ability “Black hole” if you like. It matches Reaper’s edgy style.
Personally, I’d rather them just properly tweak shadowstep, as your proposed ability would on paper work just as well or possibly even lesser than a properly working shadowstep. I like the creativity and it sounds decent. But it has some of the same problems as shadowstep as it currently stands, the primary ones being that it’s telegraphed and can be denied.
I think if they lowered the voiceline range and volume of shadowstep that would help. I also think making it an instant/nearly instant teleport would be great and not as overpowered as once thought on game release. Because as it stands we now have many CC abilities to counter a Reaper that weren’t present at launch. The only issue I see with an instant teleport would be a tele into death blossom combo. So to stop this, I say that there should be a slight delay before you’re able to use death blossom after teleporting. Somewhere around a second or so
I agree. But consider that it has to have some kind of weakness. What I did my by suggestion is make so that Reaper risks his black hole during the ability, not his body, and hence safer.
It has to be telegraphed and counterable. Allowing Reaper to just zip in people faces instantly is a very bad idea.
That’s true. In that case, make it so he can do everything except shoot his hellfire shotguns and death blossom, which are delayed by a second. That plus the lowering of voiceline and volume
But not everything has to have a weakness. But not everything can be vastly op. That’s why I’m not sure an instant tele with delay on death blossom wouldn’t be overpowered. If you teleport on top of a team and assassinate a few they should change to a brig. Now when you tele on the team you get shield bashed and focused down.
