I play with a friend a lot who mainly uses the sniper heroes (Widow, Ana, Ashe, and Hanzo). Whenever I refer to this fact, they always get very confused why I call Ashe a sniper (and sort of Hanzo but not as much).
They say that a sniper requires aiming through a scope that limits your FOV, and Ashe just aiming down sights doesn’t count. Personally I qualify all four as snipers, but is this me having faulty logic?
I’m pretty sure Overwatch at least considers her a sniper, as she’ll add to the “Too many Snipers!” warning when initially building your team composition
Yeah, I like to refer to them all as snipers just because you pick them for similar needs. It’s a good overarching category, even if Hanzo and Ashe aren’t quite like Widow.
A designated marksman (DM), squad advanced marksman (AD) or squad designated marksman is a military role in an infantry squad.
The DM’s role is to supplement the attached squad by providing accurate fire upon enemy targets at distances up to 600 metres (660 yd). Due to the need for repeated effective fire, the DM is usually equipped with a scoped semi-automatic rifle called a Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR). Like snipers, DMs are trained in scouting and precise shooting, but unlike the more specialized “true” sniper (who often operate independently), they operate as an intrinsic part of an infantry fireteam, and are tasked to lay down accurate support fire at valuable targets as per tactical necessity, thus extending the reach of the fireteam.
They can but this is not how they are most effective. They are most effective close to and just behind their team. This is evidenced by Ashe’s fall-off damage and the mechanics of Hanzo’s bow and arrow speed/arrow drop.
playing by themselves or with a mercy on a high ground or off angle
I think so
and btw this game isn’t anywhere close to real life, hanzo ashe widow are all much more ranged then cree soldier, and don’t benefit from playing with their team as much as playing high ground
im surprised i don’t get that more often, if you ask me more then one is too many, if its a widowmaker and an ana thats fine, but if its a widow and a hanzo i just sigh.
I really don’t see how Ashe is a sniper. She has much worse damage fall off than Widow and her damage per hit doesn’t feel like a sniper to me. I’d sooner call Zen a sniper than Ashe.
