Servers in Latin America

I really hope someone ends up reading this and gives proper feedback. Since launch, everyone in Latin America has been playing on Brazil servers which is a cause for major frustration. I’m not sure you know but, Brazil is the ONLY country in Latin America where the official language is not Spanish, they speak Portuguese. This is the main reason for communication issues when playing ranked games because we don’t understand each other , we literally speak different languages. Communication being key as it is in competitive Overwatch, it’s very hard to coordinate a team of 6 people when not everyone speaks the same language or even if you try to speak in English they would end up tilting and throwing, just because they don’t even want to bother communicating.
I know there was a test in place for servers in Chile, this would help us tremendously. If we just let people from Brazil match up with people from their same country who speak the same language. The rest of us, from: Argentina, Chile, Perú, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, etc. etc. Can play together as we all speak Spanish and will cooperate for a better ingame experience overall.

Thank you.

To be honest, think about how Europeans feel. They have many different languages on their server, more than Latin America, but that doesn’t stop players from at least trying to communicate. Yes English is more common in Europe, but if Brazil got their own server and other Latino counties did, then it would only be fair to give Germany, France, even Russia their own as well.

Having specific servers wouldn’t help that much, but if they had an option to select a primary (and secondary maybe) language on your profile then that would help to match up with other players that are similar.

Even tho I’m American, I still know this is a problem so I hope it’s addressed soon.

I know man, thanks. I think the difference with EU servers is that most countries have adopted English and a natural second language, that’s why they can communicate a lot better. I mean, it’s not like there’s a reason or need for elaborated conversation, just calling out targets/picks or whatever is needed ingame.

The difference with EU is that Brazil has the same population as the rest of Latin America combined.

Your argument honestly doesn’t make any sense.

  1. The servers don’t speak any human language.
  2. If you moved the server to Chillie would there still not be Portuguese players that will still not be able to communicate?

Nothing has changed, except the location. There still will be a Brazil, and those Brazillians will still not speak Spanish or English.

Your 1st point doesn’t make any sense and in your last phrase, your explaining the problem ( so you did understand the issue). Btw, its Chile…or Chili.

LA has the problem that its a continent where spanish is the dominant language and we have to speak english because Brazilians dont speak other language than their owns. Obviously, there are exceptions where they do speak other language but the language they may speak is english.

I’ve tried with some other friends playing in NA servers and its such a huuuuge difference, since everyone speaks english and the ambient is much different in a good way, sadly, the latency is a huge issue if we try playing there.

This language barrier gives place to racism and hatred between brazillians and the rest of the continent wich i recall blizzard is totally against it, and to be honest, its hard not to get tilted by this and fall to the dark side. This is a big issue when trying to play competitive ( more than having a simetra/torb/sniper onetrick).

The other issue of this is the latency we get because of the location of the server. Ive never heard of someone saying that he has png lower than 60, and dont tell me its my internet because if got hte best one the market can offer.

The last thing that may be and issue that if more servers come to place, the queue time will increase, but that may not happen, perhaps people that join the game and see that you only encounter players that speak your language or actually make an effort to communicate with you may increase the player pool, witch could mean a win for everyone.

All i’ve said is founded in personal experience through gameplay.

I think you failed to actually read what the OP wrote.
He said the main issue was due to a language barrier based on location of the server.

The server location is completely irrelevant in defining the language used by the players. People from all over S. America will still be speaking the same languages regardless of where it is located. So nothing at all will change in terms of language.

Just because you have the best internet the market can offer doesn’t mean that is good internet either. The best internet that particular market can offer could be dia lup.

More importantly, there is a big difference between Volume of Data and Latency of a connection. A 20mbs connection can have a higher latency than a 10mbs connection. Why? It matters how the information is transferred and what cables it goes through.

I agree, I’m brazilian myself, I can speak english, and most do (I mean the entire SA, not just brazilians), but we are also pretty nervous when it comes to talking english on the mic, which makes some matches very frustrating, I’ve noticed that on the SA servers, the team with most people talking the same language tend to get a guaranteed victory.

Honestly, this is brought up at least once a month or so. I’m afraid to say that it doesn’t look like it will ever change. Especially since it’s just a language barrier issue. And game has been out for 2 years.

Australia eventually got their own server, but that was because their closest server was Asia so they had horrible latency. Like, triple digit. Most of the Latin America countries have decent response on the pings, there is just the issue of language. And that would be harder and unfair to the many countries that are in the same predicament.

I read what he wrote and talk to him ( he’s a friend irl) about what he wrote.

And its not only me that has that latency issue, i’m talking internationally, not my neighbor or a pal that lives in the same country.

I tried the chilean server in the ptr and it gave a huge impact in my gameplay ( 15-20ms). So the location is relevant. I also said that when i tried the NA servers with my buddies, we had latency issues (150-200ms) but it was enjoyable ( most of us speak fluent/moderated english).

When you select region ( in my case america), it selects the closes server to play in, and in my case, the brazilian one.

The big question is, what happen to the chilean servers? Was the testing a failure? Why aren’t we funding this? Are they thinking of applying other locations as well?

Glad to see we got a server in Argentina and another one in Chile (that was tested previously).

Thank you Blizzard!

Yes i’,m brazilian and don’t want to play with other latin players, they are toxic, feeders and in 90% of cases are racists!

All they do in comp or quickplay is pick Tob, Bastion, Symetra, Ana or Widow and do awful games, you call they to change and the answer with jajaja!

It is very frustating play with this guys, when i play with brazilian the games stay more good!

Please separate the servers, we deserve a server for your country! It is not like canadians and americans the differences in gameplay, language and other aspects put the normal players of SA in desvantage!
