Server problems

Yesterday I was playing great, but today I’ve been struggling with massive lag all day. My ping isn’t high, hovering around 70, but as you can see in the video, it’s terrible! I’ve checked other games and everything works fine, except for Overwatch!

I’ve been getting disconnected almost every game. No issues on any other game or while using a streaming service.

It’s been going on for about 3 weeks since the LW patch. However this midseason patch has made it significantly worse with even more users getting affected daily.

With any luck it will be fixed by S5.

Having the same problem, this update has just ruined things. On PS5 and it’s massive lag spikes when I load the character select screen, getting DC’d randomly even though my ping and latency are fine, and the game is registering all actions until I get DC’d. And not only me, like every 3rd or 4th game I’m getting a leaver who immediately rejoins and complains about being DC’d so it’s clearly happening to other people. The game stutters and lags when lots of people are using abilities at once, like lots of ults. Been playing fine all week, and now it crops up. And yes, I’ve cleared the cache, rebooted both machines and the internet and am using an ethernet cable.

The fact that your ping and latency remain normal while you’re still experiencing massive lag spikes, random disconnects, and stuttering when multiple abilities are used is particularly interesting. If other players are also getting disconnected around the same time, this could potentially point to an issue affecting the game or its connection rather than your local network. If possible, could you record a short video showing the lag when entering the hero selection screen or during a fight with several ultimates?

games cooked, packet loss DC’s all over the place

I can’t record because I’ve been banned because of the DC issues. I was DC’d at the character loading screen because of a lag spike, and the game shut down. Happened one too many times, now I’m banned. Cheers Blizzard, great update

At this point, I’d honestly recommend waiting around 24 hours before trying to play again . Considering the number of players reporting the exact same disconnects, lag spikes and stuttering right now, it’s becoming pretty clear that this may be an issue on Blizzard’s side, particularly with the connection between their servers and players. Trying to repeatedly play while the issue is still happening could just result in more disconnects and potentially make the suspension situation worse. Give it 24 hours, then try again once things have hopefully stabilized.

I know that’s not a great solution when you just want to play, but right now waiting for the server-side situation to settle down is probably the safest option.

Well what can I do, I’m banned because of Blizzard’s incompetence, can I contest this ban at all or did I just get screwed here? Full main account by the way with multiple mythics and legendary skins. Is there any way of contacting actual support about any of this cos it doesn’t seem right to me, completely ruined the end of this season.

Just to make sure I understood correctly, did you receive a Competitive suspension , or was your Overwatch account suspended ?

If it’s only a Competitive suspension, unfortunately Blizzard generally doesn’t review or remove individual Competitive penalties, even when the disconnects were caused by technical issues.

If your entire account was suspended, that’s a different situation. In that case, you can try to appeal the suspension by creating a ticket with Blizzard Support and clearly explaining that the disconnects were caused by the ongoing server issues rather than intentional leaving.

Competitive suspension. Great to know Blizzard looks out for its players when they screw up.

report Blizzard to your local commerce commission instead, probably have more luck

Me too the servers are laggy

No, you cannot contest a Competitive Mode suspension or ban.

If you have feedback about the penalty system as a whole, post it in Competitive Discussion or General Discussion.

ridiculous given that it is a blizzard issue right now given by all the threads posted about it.

Does not seem to be that widespread. I haven’t run into any connection issues and no one has been leaving my matches. I’m mostly on the Chicago server, but sometimes land on Las Vegas.

It’s probably another routing issue, but Blizzard can’t help with those, only the ISPs can handle them.

just because you specifically arent doesnt mean it isnt a large group of us who are. given again by all the threads.

The issue at hand is while blizzard cant help with ISP routing issues they can absolutely see if it is one.
and players suffer because of it despite someone being like ope yeah x amount of accounts are affected by it but thats ok just ban them i guess.

There are over 10million Overwatch players. When a server issue is happening, there will be 50 or more new threads about it in a single day, not 50 across the entire week. Additionally, Blizzard usually provides a statement on their social channels if the server engineers see a high number of disconnections. Maybe you’ll see one in the future if the number climbs to whatever threshold they’ve set.

That said, every gaming forum on the internet has people in it complaining about disconnections. Since Blizzard does not assist with connection issues anymore, the only place to take this battle is to your ISP, not new threads that accuse me of blaming players (especially when I clearly said routing issue and nothing about you or others).

Edit: Search for your ISP on Twitter and see what others are saying. Normally, I’d do that for people posting in this forum, but no one is including their ISP names/general location.
