After the overwatch servers in Frankfurt, Germany shut down I am now being forced to play on the servers in Amsterdam, Netherlands which adds an additional 10ms of ping onto my already bad internet connection.
With all the money Blizzard makes from selling skins and other cosmetics for way too high prices I do believe it is not too much to ask for them to reenable the old server locations.
Forget how much they make from selling skins, those servers are for WoW as well, can they not keep them online?!
Of course they can keep them online. But they are trying to maximize their profits like every other corporation so they probably will keep those servers offline. I don’t know if the game servers for WoW in Frankfurt, Germany are still online cause I don’t play that game but I can definitely confirm that no Overwatch 2 server is currently online in Germany as of today (this started shortly after the release of Overwatch 2 I believe).
Edit: After doing a bit of research I was unable to confirm that the Overwatch 2 servers in Germany are offline. This article from early 2024 states that there were Overwatch 2 in Germany at some point: https://eloking.com/blog/all-server-locations-for-overwatch-2-and-how-to-change- - Pastebin.com.
I remember using Ctrl+Shift+N in Overwatch 1 from time to time and always seeing that I was connected to servers in Frankfurt, Germany however since Overwatch 2 the only servers I ever got were Amsterdam.
Geographically speaking Amsterdam is quite close to me even tho I live in Germany so maybe the game decided that these servers are best for me to play on.
Either way the quality of the network connection to the overwatch servers has definitely been degrading since ow2.
Maybe… I don’t know anything about what servers they do or don’t have anymore
that does suck but ONLY 10ms more?
if get pingapore im on 700ms i cant even leave the bloody spawn room
Yeah, I live right in the middle of Frankfurt and Amsterdam so the change doesn’t influence me that much but it sucks nonetheless cause my wifi is already quite bad so I would really have liked to avoid this extra 10ms.
tbh 10ms really is not anything to complain about.
If it was 30-50ms. then yes. that is an issue.
wait, really? how do I see, where I play? Netherlands is even further from me, than Germany. Why is it off?
You join a server (for example practice range) and hit Ctrl+Shift+N. Then look for the region id that is contained inside square brackets: for example right now I see “[ams1]” which means I am playing on a game server that is located in Amsterdam.
Also: as I said I dont really know if the german servers are offline. All I can say is: I live in germany and haven’t seen a german server in a long while.
So, I did that and I am from Slovakia. I got Ams1 too. Great…now that weird MS makes more sense. Why tho?
Also, is not like whole North Africa, half of Arab countries and half of Russia with us on EU server? We all are on that one server?
No just because you and I are playing on Amsterdam servers does not mean that all of europe is.
I am literaly in the middle of Europe and I don´t know about any server east from me. Are there any info about server locations?
NA East hasn’t had servers for god knows how long lmao. They do not care, multi billion dollar company can’t afford to keep servers up for their top games. Company is just cheap and god awful.
No, the locations of servers are not public sadly. The only way would be to find a bunch of players from all over the world and gather informtion on what server locations they are connected to.
Ye know, I was told, that there is no russian server anymore, but few times, I found my self in matches with MS over 100 with full russian teams. I am positive, that those were matches on a different server.
I’ve recently returned to Overwatch and have been playing competitive again for a few days now. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that in every third game or so, my latency spikes to over 150ms. I don’t think it’s an issue on my end, since it seems to vary depending on the map. Sometimes I’ll have 30ms in one match, and then suddenly 150ms in the next. This never used to happen — it feels like I’m not only playing on EU servers but sometimes on servers from other regions as well…
For me it’s literally unplayable right now and I will stop playing until this is fixed…
I’m from Germany.
