Is there a way to tell on your side whether a person clicked the leave button or the server disconnected you? Its happened twice today and now every time it disconnects me I have to wait freaking 10 mins to join another game. I only play QP. This punishment does not fit the crime as there was no crime!
2 games later
Yep, disconnected again…now a 30 min wait. Jesus the 75% xpBonus was so much better as I don’t care about the damn battle pass.
My internet is 250mbs. So its not internet speed, its whatever server you connect me to that drops me.
blame ow devs. proof? cod netcode is far more resilient at keeping players connected through ping spikes. which proves that cod devs are either smarter than ow devs or ow disconnects are deliberate to the extent that it neglects a proper network threshold buffer to mitigate/minimize ping spike disconnects. which is why discussions about disconnects occur far more frequently in ow than cod.
edit: today cod devs sabotaged their own netcode which is why an app restart was required. ping spike disconnects now occur more frequently in cod. which proves that there are certain devs throughout the gaming industry addicted to sabotaging user experience. sabotaging your own netcode = excessive bitterness.
When does the leaver penalty revert. I played 3 games today, just disconnected and I get a 30 min penalty again?!?! When does it reset? Is it not a daily reset? At this pace I am screwed as I can’t prevent the server disconnect and I can’t rejoin.
They need a rejoin option, this is rediculous.
Yes it is possible to differentiate user action (client request, e.g. clicking leave) from a timeout (server disconnect).
No, it doesn’t solve the issue like you think it does. Once someone learns that user action causes the penalties, they just leaving in more creative ways that can’t be differentiated, such as killing the game in task manager, or unplugging their network connection (or disabling their wifi) and waiting a few seconds to simulate a timeout.
Internet speed (i.e. bandwidth) has absolutely nothing to do with its reliability. Even a 10 gigabit fiber connection can be unreliable if a piece of hardware somewhere between your computer and their server is having an issue.
If you’re having internet issues, you should troubleshoot it instead of ignoring the problem and just causing hardships for everyone you’re playing with.
The penalties persist until you have fewer than 4 leaves in the last twenty games.
proving that nearly every aspect of ow is rigged into oblivion for maximum multiplayer misery. proof? no ping spike resistance which compels disconnects to occur resulting in artificial timeout: artificial queue prevention. see? devs create nearly all their problems. cod, which had ping spike resistance was ostensibly tricked by ow devs into removing it. this act proves that ow and cod are ran by immature coders who call each other up directly to implement devious detrimental changes with zero oversight.
Welp I am screwed. My connection is what it is, and I don’t get any other interruptions on any other action I take on my computer. Streams just fine, plays other games just fine. I can play Diablo 3 for hours no disconnects.
Only on OW2 does it disconnect me from the game server. So its not hardware or my connection, its OW2.
In my opinion this should be reset daily, because at this pace I can only play 1 game a day (pray not to disconnect) for 20 days to try and remove this penalty.
Your best bet is to file a support ticket, and they can at least help run you through common issues. Networking is a lot more complicated than “Other stuff works fine, so it must be the game.” Servers can exist in different locations and routing network traffic can take different paths depending on their location, time of day (e.g. traffic congestion), etc. Some games are also more or less sensitive to different types of network disruption - e.g. a largely PvE game may be more robust to sporadic disconnected for chunks of time than a real time PvP game like OW. Scenarios like streaming may also appear uninterrupted if the issue is your upload (e.g. you can receive data, but cannot send it). I actually had such an issue once with my internet’s modem where the upload connection would break and I would still receive game updates from the server but none of my actions could reach the server. It’s weird because you feel like you’re playing, but you have no idea you DC’d until it boots you. At the same time, I would be able to hear all my friends talking on discord, but I couldn’t talk to them.
You might try running a test on your packet loss, can check at several website for free, or do it in command prompt. I have a similar issue where I get disconnected only in OW and not other games despite have 500mbs speed. Turns out I am hitting spikes of up to 60% packet loss several times per minute because of a bad connection somewhere in the ISP line between local hub and house. Even tho it only lasts a second, it’s enough to kick from overwatch even tho it just cause brief frame skips in most games. They have been looking for the source of the issue for months but maybe you will have better luck.

so instead of importing cod’s ping spike resistance, support ticket? GTFOH
clearly ow is ran by devious developers, addicted to self inflicted sabotage.
ran test on my packet loss and i do get a couple of spikes, only about 8%. So not nearly the 60 percent someone else said.
I do believe this issue to be with how OW2 handles this connection. It was not an issue in OW1.
I been having server disconnections as well since OW2 launch. Never had this issue in OW1. They are also plenty of people who are having such issues. Look at tech forums.
Finally got through 8 games(4 games a day) during non peak hours to reset this stupid penalty. Git rid of it, it’s garbage. Or if you want to keep it, make the leaving reset after days of not playing, or increase the percentage out of 20 games before you get the penalty.
Right now all they are encouraging is AFK and trolling, before those people would just leave, now they just troll/afk.
