Seriously, just treat Comp like QP

Best bit of advice I’ve heard from IoStux and Spilo, two OW coaches

It encouraged me to start playing Comp more regularly, and I can count on 2 fingers the amount of times someone BM’d on my own team, and it was 2 idiot tanks who tried blocking my scope on Ana those matches because I didn’t heal them when they deadzoned themselves like the idiots they were, (we still won those matches BTW)

I also found I was raging more at myself for playing poorly, and next to no raging at my own team. And even if they played poorly, I wasn’t seething after the match like I would in QP, because I was more focused on my own gameplay all game

While QP shouldn’t be an excuse to troll, just go to Comp where you know everyone will at least be trying their best to win, sure their best might not be enough, but it’s better than knowing someone is in “chill” mode or trolling

Also Ctrl+Shift+C hides chat and that also helps out, just set your pings or callout wheel and you’re set, major game-changer and I actually have been enjoying playing Overwatch lately

I enjoy the competitive mindset and the visible ranks. Not a fan of the longer mirror matches sometimes, nor the lack of backfill.

There is no difference between the players in QP and Comp.

It’s the same dang type of people. Maybe they sweat a little bit more cause they cant leave, but its the same, mistake-making, rushing-in-alone, solo-ulting, raging-in-chat-when-they-lose, flame-blame-game, people.

The anxiety is all mental.

As a former t500 strictly soloQ, I can tell you it doesnt get any better up there. Same type of mistakes, Those people just make mistakes less. They are the still the same people, drooling on their keyboards. Myself included.

i dunno wtf is wrong with me but i’ve been playing QP/Unranked after staying out of it for the past several seasons AND disagreeing with the leaver penalty.

The result?
I’ve …been…winning? and when I lose, it’s not worth the penalty and its not worth the battle pass xp loss (makes it a waste of time)…to just leave before that DEFEAT screen.

I’ve also noticed I’ve had a lot less people playing like crap…or maybe I just haven’t noticed or cared anymore.

so…i guess i’ve changed my mind about leaving? i dunno.

i never understood the people that play less comp than qp. for me, comp is the default game mode. and as such, i dont ever have ranked anxiety anymore and since my last toxicity ban ive also not been toxic anymore.

the only time i play qp is when i play heroes i cant play, just because i want to play em. or when i am too tired or intoxicated to tryhard but still want to play some overwatch.

most casuals however play way too much quickplay, which results in them having ranked anxiety, be worse than they should be at the game (bc they avoid playing the “tryhard mode”) or be toxic bc they are scared of losing sr.

Nowadays, even 7 minute queue times are too much for ranked for me. I used to play ranked only

I agree with this, my default is comp unless I’m trying something new or know that my performance is going to be sub-par for whatever reason.

Although recently I’ve started seeing people turbo-feeding/perma-trickling in my comp games. Wierdly people seem to be playing better in quickplay. I don’t know anymore…

I’ve been seriously thinking about trying Comp again next Monday (about two weeks into the season so hopefully the Ventures are settled by then). I think I would probably be happier there. I seem to be suffering from massive packet loss much less frequently in recent times, so that shouldn’t be much of a problem. The only thing left for me to worry about is whether or not people are more likely to report me over my hero choice there. One of my support mains is Lifeweaver

I can’t stand this attitude that qp is “chill” or having fun like throwing and saying hi to the enemy and stalling payload bs around. That’s the only thing I’ve ever liked about competitive because I’m guaranteed not to see that. Being forced to play modes I don’t like and payload matches being longer sucks though. One match was 4 rounds and for the most part it was balanced but come on man just pick a winner lol

i wont listen to a coach all of them i feel will say go play comp like in reality im noy even comp material like ive heard stories about comp basically demanding you play meta or be reported

This, gamequality is so bad in both modes now because people just do not care, both modes are just full of OTP’s, throwers, people sabotaging games, theyre basicslly glorfied death matches 90% of the time.

Only way to guarentee a decent game is to 5 stack, theres no element of competitiveness anymore outside of scrims and other teamplay.

thats bs. unless youre t500 you wont see meta comps other than by accident. usually, ppl just play whatever they like, like in qp.

I’m the exact opposite here.
In comp i expect my team to actually try, so i get angry at them if they keep feeding and doing dumb stuff. Or they abandon me as a support to the mercy of venture and tracer instead of helping me.

In qp, i expect less from my teammates and thus play better. Also get less angry at myself for misplays.

Loosing 6 in a row on qp, don’t really care.
Loosing 3 in a row in comp, i want to burn my keyboard and smash my screen in anger.

So i just stay in the unranked modes, since i dislike getting angry at videogames.

When folks treat comp like qp. Shows a clear problem of communication and goals.

Comp, shouldn’t be mainstream and the unranked portion should be a way to get to it. Like some kind of internal bracket/league system to enable comp and eventually something like old contenders/owl.

Having wrong mindsets on each mode doesn’t help much.

That way could split casual from competitive. Due qp not exactly being casual friendly either.
