First things first, I have to say I love the idea of role queue. One of the reasons I stopped being active in this game is because too often when I solo queue for competitive I’d get almost everyone picking damage role and then we’d have horrible setup and match wouldn’t go well.
So when I’ve read about this addition I immediately got hyped. However then I read that each role will have separate SR in ranked and that doesn’t sit well with me.
I play every role, my favorites being tank and damage and I like those two equally. So the idea that they won’t share the same SR seems horrible to me. Having to raise both of their SR’s separately just seems like a huge and unnecessary time investment.
I don’t really see a good reason for this either. The idea is probably that part of the players are good at one role but not as good at others, but in that case they can just practice their weak roles in quick play.
I believe that when it comes to competitive, especially with the role queue addition that people will just want to play roles they’re good at anyway since people play competitive to win, not to improve at roles or characters they’re not good at.
I hope this is something Blizzard will reconsider.
Something you will hopefully understand is that Role Queue is a Role Lock, so you can climb playing Tank and then switch to DPS or Support and play way worse, which would be very unfair for the rest of your team.
But why would someone climb then switch to role they’re not good at in a non-separate SR scenario? They know that would hurt their SR so it doesn’t make sense to do that.
As the things currently are people sometimes change to their weak role to improve team composition, but once role queue is added and 2-2-2 is the norm there won’t be any reason to play as role you’re bad at in competitive.
I intend to play all the roles and I’m sure many others do to, especially since we won’t have to be afraid of dragging our team down by playing in a higher elo for a role we’re not particularly strong with.
Sadly, that would apply if everybody in the game had good intentions and could recognize they are worse at one role. But realistically, they’ll think they’re good at every role.
The reason being people play different roles at different levels. I play DPS and Tank at a different level than support. My alt account where I play dps is an entire rank lower. If I decide I want to queue for a dps hero which locks me in to that role I am then playing a role that I play at a gold level in a plat game. Since we no longer have the option to swap roles it makes sense that they would have a separate SR for each role.
This also means I no longer need my alt account since I will be able to play dps on my main account and not have to worry about under performing.
It won’t hurt their SR. Because they can’t say “I’m a XXX SR player” anymore, they will be an XXX SR tank, a YYY SR support, and a ZZZ SR DPS. Their performance in one role doesn’t have any effect on their SR in other roles.
Because people most of times can’t even admit to be simply awful. Just read this forum, nobody seems to even consider the idea of not being so great. It’s always easier to blame teammates, enemies, smurfs, cheaters, Brigitte, Doomfist, Orisa, Rein, Widow, Mercy, Sigma, Soundquake, the devs, Blizzard, unFuN 2PlAy AgAin57 heroes, that hero my favorite streamer said being so OP, that hero used in OWL twice…
Yeah, you have a point, in an happy world. Sadly, this isn’t an happy world. This community clearly doesn’t deserve “creativity”, unique SR, XP from custom modes and so on…
What is so bad about it? You get evaluated based on how well you do with that class instead of having the same rank no matter how good or bad you play any of those heroes.
The current rank doesn’t reflect if you are good rein and bad widow or the other way around.
Because we don’t one trick. When you have more than one hero, pick your hero based on the map and situation. I picked DPS and the next map turned out to be Numbani, which is fine since my Sombra is good on attack there. Then the game switched to defense, which i normally play with Orisa, i’m now stuck on a role that i’m weak on that map with.
I’m a tank main, and i have two tanks in my Roster, Orisa and Hammond. If the team, map, or situation calls for a Reinhardt, i’m screwed. Rein is pretty popular so i could have just switched with one of the supports who would likely have a Reinhardt that’s better than mine and i’d go Moira instead. Now we’re stuck.
2-2-2 may seem like an optimal comp. But there are different kinds of 2-2-2 and players with different hero pools. The 2-2-2 that you start the game with, may not even be the same 2-2-2 that you finish with as players swap heroes.
If I want to play both tank and damage, it literally takes at least two times as much time to get them both to the same rank. TWO TIMES AS MUCH.
I can understand that, damn this is hard to argue against now. I guess the most ideal system would be to let players decide at the beginning of the season whether they want certain roles to share SR between them or not. But I assume there’s no way they would go through extra effort to implement that.
Please keep in mind that this thread is about separate SR for roles in ranked, not for discussion about role lock in the role queue mode.
That doesn’t matter. You are evaluated based on what you play.
before, you could play widow all match, not land any shots and get rewarded for being carried by your team.
The new system is going to reflect the skill more accurate based on how you actually perform on those roles instead of “eh, I feel like playing widow today even though i am a main tank”.
Going by the logic from some of you, we should just have separate SR by character as well. Because nobody is equally good with all characters from a specific role.
Someone could climb with Bastion and then switch to Widow whom they can’t hit anything with and underperform.
