Self-inflicting damage is so stupid

If Junkrat’s nades and dva bomb (I know they both had it and it got changed) doesn’t have it, there is no reason tracer’s pulse bomb, Pharah’s rocket’s and soldier’s helix rocket (tell me if I missed any) have it, just keep the knockback and get rid of the damage cuz that damage is not helping nobody but the enemy. “But it is easy to avoid it” thank u Captain Obvious. This would be a Quality of life change.

Junkrat and dva makes sense

The rest doesn’t

Junkrat doesn’t thematically. Him damaging himself and blowing himself up is kind of literally his entire thing. It’s absolute nonsense that he doesn’t harm himself.

junkrat was limited by his grenades so much he was unplayable. dva was also limited in her placement of her bomb because it forced her to put it someplace she can also hide. Now junkrat is a hero who’s only weak at mid range, and dva can place her bomb where it gets the most effect

that said, the rockets and the pulse bomb are not limiting except for when the hero is in a situation they shouldn’t be in.

because players kept killing themselves and dva made no sense

While helix rocket does like 40 damage to soldier and it’s mostly used away from him

Pharah is supposed to fly while shooting not down on the ground blasting players

There it is, Mr. 8 words

Pharah: the character who can FLY shouldn’t have self damage?
Tracer: The character who has the highest consistent mobility in the game shouldn’t have self damage?

76: If you’re shooting yourself in the face with your own rocket and it gets you killed that is your own fault.

And doesn’t that seem exactly like how Junkrat should play, given his lore, concepts, design, voice lines, and theme?
Pure explosive offense that comes with major downsides. Like a blood magician that sacrifices their life to cast.

Removing self-harm goes beyond QoL though. Both Dva and Junkrat had their self damage changed because it was extremely limiting. Junkrat was practically useless as he’s designed as a close-range hero, by virtue of his slow and easy to dodge grenades, and Dva was killing herself just as much with the enemy when her Ult was buffed.

Pharah, Zarya, Tracer and Soldier don’t need this buff, because the chance of them dying to self-damage is either minuscule, or they have tools to avoid self-damage, whether it be their mobility or alternative options like Soldiers and Zarya’s LMB.

Balance matters more than thematics. If you took away Junkrats immunity to self-damage, you’d have to significantly buff his survivability elsewhere to compensate.

Could care less about his lore

He was limited by his self harm and became niche because of it while soldier and pharah are mid range heroes

Wow, Tracer- zips around right?? Like she has unlimited resources. She will run out of it and it is not her fault for then sticking a zen and then dying on him just cuz she couldn’t blink, I get the soldier part but about pharah in her ult. She can die if a dva boosts towards her during her ult. That is just stupid, I know pharah can’t be invincible during her ult but she shouldn’t die from it. More than a majority of the players have died through self inflicting damage and it is bs.

It would be a buff if Zarya didn’t hurt herself. I killed myself many times with Zarya hoping for the projectile + melee combo.

Bastion’s ult should not hurt himself either. I thought that would be removed but it never happened.

Soldier, zarya and pharah all have explosive punch combos, for zarya and soldier they are incredibly important to their close range combat effectiveness, so in that sense it would make sense that they wouldnt have self damage since its anti synergetic. The other side of that would be that they would be too powerful is they didnt self damage, thats up for debate. And lastly, rocket jump type effects wouldnt work unless the devs specifically coded it in if you couldnt damage yourself with explosives.

But why Zarya takes self damage from her secfire but cant charge her own bubble.
Sounds not fair, balanced but not fair

I would find legitimate to take out the damage on soldier and zarya weapon as those heroes (especially zarya) can regularly use their explosive ability on short range.

But phara has this to compensate for the flying ability and to keep her as a long range hero instead of a front line TF2 soldier.
And tracer ult has this as a game play element and a down side to a mobility allowing her to place the bombe whereever she like. plus it’s easier to avoid for tracer.

Even after playing D.Va for over 1400 hours, I must say that one of the most satisfying things in the game is flying up to a hapless ulting Pharah with Defense Matrix up and watching her kill herself. Even if I sometimes end up losing my mech from the damage, it was worth it every time. Mega bonus points if said Pharah’s barrage ends up as POTG, ending with me flying up in her face.

This is a hilarious mechanic and it can’t always be easily pulled off, so it is fine. When playing Pharah, just be more careful before using your ultimate. Fly up high above Rein/Orisa shields, wait for the Winston to bubble, and the D.Va to use her boosters first (or just de-mech her if you feel the need to).

If you use pulse bomb and wasted your mobility and kill yourselves it’s your fault for bad ability management

Tracer : it’s her fault for not managing her ressources to create an escape
Pharah : already little counterplay due to the insane damage it does, let her at least suffer from poor positionning

No bs in there, just common game sense

For D’va it’s her ultimate. It was stupid that you had to flee from your own ultimate skill.

And for Junkrat they made his immunity a part of his passive. Lore wise it makes sense he can mess with bombs and come out unscathed. But balance wise is the important bit. Junkrat was absolute horse crap with it. You died more from your own bombs than from enemies. One Winston could literally jump on top of you which automatically led to respawn. He was useless.

Not to interject, but… If Tracer could survive her own Bomb, That’s it for Bastion players… We’d just have to leave.

All she’d have to do is stick it (On a stationary target) Then stick to us like Genji to a magnet while it goes off, And get another free clip of damage in Directly after the explosion, (Or even during)

Yea… No thanks.
I was glad it at LEAST Couldn’t oneshot us without counter play any more.
