Seems you actually earn more cosmetics than OW1 now

So the assumptions I’m making about each player

  • already owns every item that can be purchased for white credits (this makes things hard to compare since you could technically gain infinite lootboxes in OW1 in a given time frame while in OW2 you do earn an inconsistent number of white credits straight up and an unknown number of lootboxes)
  • Is completely f2p
  • Is minmaxxing all the free stuff

In OW1 in a 2 month time frame you’d get a seasonal event (5 legendary 3 epic), sometimes a mini-event (1 epic), and sometimes an OWL skin (1 legendary).

  • 6 legendary skins
  • 4 epic skins

In OW2 in a 2 month time frame you’d get 1 free battlepass (2 free epic skins, 2 legendary skins (legendary lootboxes)), enough coins to buy half a premium battlepass (0.5 epic skins, 3 legendary skins, 0.5 mythic skins), events (4 legendary skins, though around half of them recolors, as of the past 2 seasons), twitch drops (at least 1 epic), and an unknown number of free lootboxes (~1 legendary, 4 epics (but not necessarily skins) per 20 boxes, I won’t factor these in since we don’t know how many you’ll typically get)

So in total for a f2p player that’s

  • 0.5 mythic skins
  • 7 legendary skins
  • 2 legendary recolors (and these could be recolors of items that are premium only)
  • 3.5 epic skins
  • Unknown number of additional lootbox skins, at minimum 5 in season 15 but will be less in future seasons

Now this does assume that they won’t ever pull back and stop being generous with events like they did in season 14 and 15. And OW2 also has the ability to save its best skins for the shop, but as of late some pretty damn good ones were handed out for free.

The value of the BP has gone way up since S1. That Celestial Mei skin is so good, it could have easily been a shop skin and sold for $20. The detail is just incredible. Ironically, recolors are sold in the shop when they should be in the BP.

The only shame is that it’s taken as long as it has to get to this point.

The major selling point of f2p battle pass seasonal model game is just more. More content, more skins, more everything. They make more money so they should have more resources to invest into the game.

But for a long time we kinda got kinda the same as pre ow 2020 ish unless I’m misremembering. And even then with some of the best stuff in the shop if you were a long time player who had all the ow1 and were f2p then you just kinda got shafted.

People may disagree but ow2 is doing a much better job of justifying the changes, it just took them over 2 years to do so. Especially with stadium. It’s not PvE, but it’s kinda fulfilling that promise

To each his or her own, I hate that skin personally and would never use it.

I’ve been playing since 2019 and do not have every cosmetic unlocked. I nearly had every cosmetic for Reaper (two short), but then OW2 launched and I no longer have the ability to collect them all.

At most, I had maybe 50-70% of the cosmetics in the game.

I may not be playing this game day in and day out, but I’d say I’m pretty close to a minmaxxer in terms of earning credits. That being said, I only have around 3000 creds rn and I haven’t even been able to get half of the cosmetics for the new characters (collectively).

I thought they specified that Legendary Lootboxes were only attainable through the premium battlepass.?

These numbers are off. If you only get enough coins for half a battle pass then you aren’t getting anything? Recolors don’t count, even epic quality skins don’t count for anything. They are not being generous at all, every post you make gets more ingenuine each time, it’s kind of crazy. Pick a side, you’re either a shill or just a troll.

2 in the free pass 1 in the premium pass

Yeah I’m averaging it out, half the seasons you get a battlepass for free half of them you don’t, so on average each season you get half a battlepass worth of stuff
