I was very excited when it was revealed Street Fighter was the next collaboration with OW. I’m a huge SF fan so naturally anywhere I see it I’ll give my attention to it, and also often times my money. When I saw the trailer for it I thought it was really good and it had my favorite characters from SF in it too except for Sakura. You couldn’t really tell from that trailer how they would look in game, except for the obvious and completely unnecessary Cammy design. Even still I wanted to wait until the skins in game were revealed before coming to conclusions and deciding if I would buy them.
I figured the whole thing would likely cost about $100 and I was ready to pay that if I liked what I saw. Well, when I got in game and took a look at everything, I didn’t like everything I saw. Ryu and M. Bison were great, but everything else just didn’t look right to me. Chun Li looked like bad cosplay. Juri looked like a half cosplay. Guile looked unfinished with basically just the hair standing out. Cammy looked weird, and we all know why. Little details in things like this will make very big differences in more ways than they seem to realize. The emotes, sprays, intros and all that stuff were pretty good. Overall though I was not all that impressed by this collab and certainly not impressed enough to drop $100 for everything.
I haven’t bought any of the SF stuff yet. I’d love to have the Ryu skin but buying any of them separate makes me feel like I’m getting a bad deal when the full bundle deal is such a big discount. I really wish they’d stop doing that and not make it such a big difference in discount for buying them in the bundle rather than separate. I’m still on the fence on whether I’m going to buy any of these. If the skins were designed better I would’ve bought this the very moment I loaded into OW like I did with the WoW collab. I just look back on other collabs like Cowboy Beepop and think to myself how could they have designed Faye so well but didn’t put the same care into something as big as SF?
But seriously, her stupid little hair pin drones actually kill the vibe. I have no idea why Blizzard pretends she has to have obnoxious headwear as if we cannot hear the universal voice line for when she uses her ultimate. I complain about Sombra because I am partially deaf and play without a headset. I can still tell when Widowmaker is using her ultimate. There is just literally no excuse. If someone dies to it, they deserve it. You did not need to ruin the Cammy skin for people who are genuinely deaf and refuse to play with subtitles on.
Absolutely not. There was no reason for them to do this. They know this. They know no one wanted this. They know what Cammy looks like and they know how her fanbase wants her to be. They didn’t care about any of this and unnecessarily designed her this way for their own reasons. This kind of stuff is going to stop in video games and its going to stop through continual criticism and calling it out for what it is.
The skins are nearly $30 each when bought separately. They should be WAY better than this for that much money. There is no excuse for this. This is sloppy, lazy design being pushed in our face as something special for a high price.
Read my OP again and then give more than 2 seconds of thought if you’re able to before replying to me again. The whole thing was poorly designed in my opinion. So let me ask you, is it a problem that Capcom has portrayed Cammy the way they have for over 30 years now? If not, then why can’t she be portrayed this way in OW especially when OW’s competition is doing a much better job with skins than they are? I think the only person pressed here is you.
I think the collab looks alright. I guess the OW characters they chose to represent each of those SF characters mostly makes sense. The prices are overpriced, but I guess like with most of the pay stuff in this game - it’s cosmetic, and it comes down to personal preference.
My thing is, it’s not like you are playing as “Chun-Li” in Overwatch. You’re playing as Juno in Chun-Li cosplay, more or less, like the others have said. And I like that, I wouldn’t want it any other way. If you’re looking at it like you want to be Chun-Li in Overwatch… Well, you can’t. You can be Juno in Chun-Li dress. And if you don’t like how she looks, or don’t like playing as that character at all, then you don’t have to buy it.
Personally, I think that skin looks pretty good. Actually, one of the best in the set, alongside the Juri/Kiriko skin. But I’m also more or less just a passing fan of Street Fighter and I’m not real huge into fighting games like you might be, OP.
I guess you’ve got like a week left to decide if you want to buy anything from the collab, and if so, what.
MHWi just got a streetfighter collab too… and the skin gives you Akumas Moves. Like how did they not cobble something together in this 10 year old game but the brand new one manages to add an entire move set.
This just tells me that their scummy monetization practices are working fully as intended. The whole point is exactly what you described; making players feel like they’re getting a worse deal when buying individual skins separately, thus making them more inclined to spend extra and get the overpriced bundle instead.
More people ought to stand up to Blizzard (and greedy companies in general) and make their disdain for -y monetization schemes ring so loud in the heads of people in charge that they are forced to change things.
I still hate that they labled 2 epic skins as legendary (Winton, Soldier) honestly turned me so off was hopping they stop this shrinkflation practices with a shiny new competetor on the ring but no.
Because she was needlessly censored. Cammy has a 30+ year established iconic look. This crap only ever happens for female characters and its annoying to think these devs think they should correct something that isn’t a problem. Its pathetic.
Nobody can explain what the benefit is from Blizzard going out of their way to half-censor Cammy for no clear reason so they just cry that anyone who notices is ‘weird’ (as if anybody past kindergarten actually thinks that’s a bad thing) and ‘cares too much’, as if it didn’t take far more care to actually implement in the first place. Why can’t people just be honest about their culture war positions? It’s pathetic.
