Season 15 could be rough

first of all it’s a no hero season, so it’s already in the lamer half of season by default

But then it is the second comp update season, which means they’re going hog wild on the balance like they did in season 9, so there’s a lot of room for stuff to go wrong.

But then it also launches February 18th, and Marvel Rivals is getting its midseason update with 2 heroes 2 maps on either the 21st or the week after that, so the momentum from the new season will be cut off pretty soon

And its also just the first season in ages where we haven’t heard anything in advance, which kinda has me thinking they might just have nothing

No news doesn’t meaning they have nothing prepared. Just look at the Venture Avatar skin they have planned in advance with the collab.

They definitely have plans. They just haven’t shared their roadmap with us which in typical Blizzard fashion is a terrible idea. I don’t know why they insist on being so secretive about everything.

I bet there will be some big update right before S15 starts.

What do you mean? S15 is not a new hero season

Honestly, roadmaps are just another facet of the free to play nonsense to keep you hooked

People have no patience these days, you don’t really need to know what they’re doing so far ahead of time. It’s not like you’re playing the game on a schedule, you’re free to come and go as you please.

I think they meant this season, next season is the slower one because it won’t be while Rivals will be getting two new characters.

Which you know, who cares? Just play the game you like

Also tbh I think it’d be a waste of hype when there’s a whole half of the season remaining, given that MR is still going as strong as it is

They share news and then what people instantly forget because that game has everyone’s attention so people just forget.

It’s like trying to launch an indie game the same week as elden ring, GTA, monster hunter etc. lol

I definitely like roadmaps myself. Its like movie previews: they make me excited for whats coming next.

I definitely miss them from OW2. I hope this year they have some kind of roadmap plan they announce :world_map: :twisted_rightwards_arrows:

I mean, that’s true. But roadmaps do give players something to look forward to. When people don’t know what is planned they tend to speculate. And this community tends to doom spiral.

Very true.

Is OW2 is trouble or are they being secretive of whats next? :grimacing: :crossed_fingers:t2:

The bigger problem for Season 15 is that so many games are releasing.

The new Ghosts of Yotei, new Monster Hunter, and I’m already going all in on Virtua Fighter 5 finally being in Steam late January.

All we got for now is radio silence from the devs.

It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it plays out for the next season.

any honeymoon phase for Rivals should be long over… we are only a couple days away from week 6 since launch… and the 20,000,000 playerbase has yet to fluctuate down by more than 50k… Season 1 launch just spiked it even more… Blizz is going to need to get their crap together because the ‘its the honeymoon phase of a new game’ is no longer a true statement…

them having NO news at all, is rather out of character for them… so yeah, not beyond belief… I seriously don’t think blizz as a major franchise is going to survive 2025. They BARELY survived 2023… right now they are worse than Bethesda with fallout 76. Prior to that title, one of my favorite companies, lost all faith in them with fallout 76. Blizz has done FAR worse, mostly, but not limited to the fact that they are treating ALL of their games like bethesda did with releasing 76.

you mean the skin that should have come out a year and a half ago?? I stopped playing in june of 2024… Venture debuted in April of 2023 and still had yet to have anyhting other than the base skin at that time… FAR too little, FAR too late…

based on what evidence?

What are you expecting, OW3 next season or something? We know what’s generally happening next season, new map, rank reset, big balance patch, new comp weapon type, the usual other than those

Y’all seem to think a response to Rivals is necessary and would be quick to enact. It’s not, if they’re gonna do something big to draw people in as a response, that’s not gonna happen until late this year if even that.

just a typo, meant “no hero”

I have a feeling rivals probably got them shuffling around their schedule a lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t even know what they were doing 3 months from now yet

Hehe, those dang typos! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Intermission seasons are usually used to introduce quality of life features (sometimes functional, sometimes cosmetic) or maps. Some examples after season 6:

  • S7: Samoa map, sombra and roadhog rework;
  • S9: Competitive reset, Rank Champion, hero passive rework; Mastery gauntlet, pharah soft rework;
  • S11: Runasapi, colosseum rework, first mythic weapon,
  • S13: Battle pass rework, 4 map rework, kingmaker formation testing;

We usually know that they run these seasons around the teasers of the new heroes, tactically dropping a hint that will get the lore enthusiasts talking.

It is extremely likely that we will hear news about competitive as keller announced on twitter, although honestly I think he already knows that a new recolor of competitive rewards after the jade variant will not interest people at all. I suppose the only really decisive announcement at this point in development could be a clan system or a complete change of the progression system (the latter unlikely);

There could be a novelty on new maps, or an in-game feature (they’ve put a lot of them in the UI lately), or a rework of some heroes.

Until they seriously reorganize the gallery and the offer, I don’t think monetization can last much longer.

It’s not and shouldn’t be the new heroes that attract players’ attention in Overwatch: after two months of gameplay people will have already decided what they want to play, the new heroes have no bearing on this type of decisions.

the “more heroes released = more players” argument is wrong because it’s not a lack of interesting heroes that Overwatch loses its players.

I have zero dollars invested in Ow 2.

And as I already said in my post, imma b playing Virtua Fighter 5 new update over anything ow.

The devs haven’t said anything. So I don’t expect much.

If they want their crown back and their customers back common sense says put out more effort. Or just let Rivals run away with it.

Doesn’t matter to me because I’m a huge long time comic book fan. I been eating good ever since Rivals dropped.

If they do have something cooked up, I wouldn’t hold my breath. They have a history of overhyping up something so menial that they act like it’s the biggest deal yet to come.

*cough* brig’s ultimate rework *cough*

Seriously? All bets are off. I would rather play as the Fantastic Four. They should delay their season or something. Are they stupid?
