I like to make these threads around 3-4 weeks before the start of each season, since that’s the window when we typically can expect more info. I will update the thread as more is confirmed
Dates
Season 10 begins on April 9th. If it lasts the average length of 9 weeks, then it will end on June 11th.
Major Features
Venture, the new drill-based dps hero, is launching with the season. Their kit contains a fixed range exploding projectile, an ability to drill underground, and ability to dash forward, and an unknown ultimate. A playtest will be available before the season launches
Since there was no map in season 9, it is possible that it go pushed back to season 10, similar to how the maps that should have launched in season 5 got moved to season 6, but that is pure speculation.
It is speculated, though not confirmed, that the reworks to the battlepass and monetization are coming in season 10. We were told at blizzcon that we’d hear more detailed info about this rework “early” this year, and the start of season 10 is already pushing the limits of “early 2024.”
Balance
A “small rework” will be given to wrecking ball at the start of season 10. No info on
whether we’ll get the reaper overhaul they mentioned a while back.
Events
Overwatch turns 8 years old in May, though the anniversary event was moved as Overwatch 2 was released in October. Pride month starts at the tail end of the season so that event will probably be held again, likely with new profile cosmetics related to venture. There was also a micro-event for earth day last year, maybe we’ll get that again but I doubt it.
A collaboration event with car brand Porsche is coming during season 10, specifically some time after the launch of the season. The event will feature “multiple new cosmetics and two Legendary skins” with one of the two skins being for d.va. It is not known if this event will include any sort of gamemode, but I kind of doubt it (mech racing?)
Theme
We know the themes for three of the remaining seasons in 2024: Witches, Egyptian Mythology, Mirror Universe (good and evil heroes swap roles). It’s not guaranteed to be one of those 3 themes since there are 2 extra themes this year we don’t know, but it’s highly likely that they chose to announce the soonest ones first. Personally, I’m betting on Egypt
Mythic Skin
Moira finally brought back some semblance of standards for mythic skin quality. Moira also closed yet another cycle of 1 of each role getting a mythic , meaning any role can realistically get a mythic this season, though based on recency, dps is most likely and support is least likely. Keep in mind that none of these patterns are set in stone however
Shop
There have been progressively fewer shop skins each season, with season 9 only having one that wasn’t a recolor or part of a collab event. Will be interesting to see if this pattern continues. It is also likely that we will get another set of 2-3 themed weapon skins this season, the two previous sets were themed after things in the overwatch universe (hard light, los muertos), so that pattern may continue.
