I’m copying and pasting this so excuse odd format issues. I’ll try and fix them best as possible!
[What I’m saying is that] this could be his younger (but still older?) skin! This skin would most likely bet set in the period between right after his killing of genji and leaving the clan to some time before the Dragons short as we can see he changed his clothing to what he has now and his appearance matches his base skin in game.
Another thing to back up this theory is that all the skins from this event are all lore based such as Blackwatch Genji, McCree, and Moira along with every skin from the Uprising London PVE (Tracer, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, and Mercy). We also get a new Talon Doomfist skin so if we get Scion Hanzo, he probably falls into the category of this lore skin too.
Another huge point that I recently found out was the definition of Scion.
Scion (2) : a descendant of a notable family.
His skin’s name makes sense with who he is: The heir to a NOTABLE FAMILY (a yakuza family) called the Shimada clan.This leads into my final point; the way he dresses. His outfit is very closely resembling the Chicago/Mafia Outfit that was popular in the 1910s and 1920s. This ties in with what his family was; a Yakuza, or basically (for this theory at least) a Japanese/Asian version of our definition of Mafia.
I would love if you guys would talk about this with me and/or others! Go wild. Please keep it mostly to this theory though thank you!!!

I believe it’s supposed to be either set just before he “kills” genji, or immediately after. since it wouldnt make sense for him to stick with the clan long after they made him do that.

Ah very good idea! I agree with you on that; it’s probably set around that time period as this is “8 years ago” so Hanzo would be 30. Genji would be 27. The killing of Genji would be unknown fortunately. So either is good!

True, true. Genji did leave blackwatch before it’s fall as McCree’s backstory portion but unfortunately I can’t find that section so they must’ve removed it. And that’s true; it wouldn’t make sense for him to stay that long. I think he canonly left almost immediately after? He might’ve kept that outfit to promote or advertise his job as an assassin for hire. I know more of McCree’s and Lucio’s backstories so this is going off of memory
I agree his skin isn’t just random, his hair is completely black which talks about his age and he did enforce his clan’s laws for a while, at least until he killed Genji or even after… That said what I’m wondering about is who took the Shimada empire once Hanzo left? was it bought by Talon? Vishkar? who?

Yeah! I noticed that and immediately thought of what they did with McCree’s royal skin as the same with hair so I KNOW it was made that way. And that’s a very good question; who bought it afterwards? I want to say it was watched over by the remaining members until i think Talon bought it? As evident by the Dragons short with the guards and Talon’s offer saying they “can restore his empire” so they might’ve bought it but thats a very weak argument.

apparently whenever genji joined blackwatch he was used to take the whole clan down. so this is very interesting to see lore-wise. it’s possible this is just hanzo being a professional and not actually with the schimada clan but it doesnt make much sense there either if he’s supposed to be grieving and his next stage of developement is his default skin in the more traditional attire.
True. I think it makes a tiny bit of sense as he was an assassin and probably wanted to appear professional to his hires. That supports the theory that the clan was still up, okay. And in that sense it doesn’t; why WOULD he change his outfit? I’m starting to lean more towards right before but it could go either way. We just have to wait and see at this point.
Alternatively, this could have been Hanzo’s attire as the heir to the Shimada clan. It could be an outfit set during a time before the fateful fight between the brothers.
It also could just be because Hanzo looks damn good in a suit.

always possible, but I cant help but love the character and the lore/story behind him. it’s fun to speculate how it fits when you’re waiting for the next shred of lore.
yeah, i’m going with before as it makes him look much more professional and it doesn’t fit with afterwards and how develops then!

sorry, my bad to assume. but Im finding out it’s surprisingly common on the forums lately. but yeah, ship aside, mccree and hanzo are both my favorite characters in the whole cast.
Nah it’s alright! I decently enjoy the ship myself, actually being one of my tops, but it was just in case anyone didn’t lol. Yeah I did see that ! Mostly because that ship is one of the most popular ones and that people are getting impatient with the next LGBT Character and that brings up all the gay and lesbian ships, which brings up mchanzo.
Regardless, my favs are (like earlier) McCree, Lucio, and Hana (D.Va). Not sure how I got attached to D.Va (I’m southern so McCree makes sense and Lucio is Lucio. How can you not?) but regardless, I love them!
