I have almost exclusively been playing Bastion in the 2020-classic mode since it dropped. In fact, I’ve only played one non-Bastion match so far, because someone else picked him before me, and I’m far too awkward to ask if I could play the hero instead, so I just ended up picking Symmetra and teleported him around, which was actually really fun, but I digress.
In one of my matches, a teammate complimented one of my plays and asked if I was a Bastion main, and I genuinely didn’t know how to answer them, and afterwards it got me thinking: I used to consider myself a Bastion main back in the Overwatch 1 days, but after the OW2 rework, I stopped playing him completely after a while, so I haven’t really been a Bastion main in years now. But I have played like 50 Bastion matches in a row in the classic mode, so maybe I am a Bastion main again? But I know that once the classic mode goes away, I also won’t play Bastion anymore (unless they revert the rework in the other modes also
), so is it really “correct” to call myself a Bastion main now? I know that if I were to play other modes, I wouldn’t even consider picking Bastion, so maybe I’m only a Bastion main within the confines of the classic mode?.. But then what does it really mean to be “a Bastion main”?

This is a completely unserious post, and there probably isn’t actually anything worth discussing here, I kind of just found these thoughts amusing and wanted to share them with y’all.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great rest of your day

Sorry to hear you don’t like bastion as much anymore. I never was much of a bastion player. I played him every so often mostly as a meme. That said I do feel like his rework was successful. Old bastion felt pretty gimmicky and wasn’t viable in a lot of situations. Bastion isn’t the best hero now but I don’t feel disappointed in having a bastion teammate now like I did back then.
I hope they could find a middle ground though to make players like you happy. For me personally I’d really like to have his old ult back. It has way more skill expression imo and overall just felt way more fun. I know other miss the old self heal, I don’t care much for that tbh. But yeah hopefully you can in some ways get back the hero you miss.

I’m in the same boat as you. Never mained the hero or played him much in ow1, but have played him more in ow2. Not a ton, but still more. Ow1 bastion just feels so limited. He either dies easily and does nothing, or is just miserable to play against with 2 barriers and a team playing around him. In the same way it sucks to have one on your team, as you generally have to pick around him for him to get his value. The dmg he does is crazy, but no movement and being so team dependent is annoying. Either cheesey or bad.

Bastion is easily the worst rework they ever did, they somewhat salvaged him with perks but still so bland until you unlock them

I guess you can always say that you were a bastion main in ow1.
Just like i used to not be a support main in ow1, i was a flex player who preferred support and tank.
In ow2, i’m mostly a support main but can tank in oq.

Sometimes when i play as Bastion, i right-clicked everytime my health is low thinking that i can self heal because of the muscle memory during the OW1 era.
You can already guess the ending.

I do the same when i play hog. I try to poke at people in the distance and heal myself instead.
Sometimes i even toss out the pigpen while trying to heal XD

I really don’t expect Blizzard to change him in any way anytime soon. I’m pretty sure more people enjoy the new Bastion than the old one, so he’s likely just gonna remain as he is now, and while I am very bitter about essentially losing my favorite hero, there’s plenty of other heroes I enjoy playing, so it doesn’t ruin the game for me or anything like that. I do still really wish they’d at least make old versions of heroes available in the workshop though :/

I would say yes. Your love of Bastion is clear in many of your posts. You’re knowledgeable and passionate about the hero.
The only way I could say you weren’t a main anymore was if you never played them again.

Bastion is one of many heroes completely ruined in OW2. OW1 Bastion was a lot more interesting and unique, and setting up in a good spot and being able to get some kills felt way more rewarding and fun.

Back in the OW1 days, my DPS main was Bastion. I loved playing him so much! So to your query, I would say you were a Bastion main, but only within the context of OW1 or Classic mode.
I used to be a Mercy Support main back in OW1 (I am/was a D.Va main but for Support, I mostly played Mercy). Since Juno came out, I main her now. But with Stadium and the Magitech Mythic weapon, Im returning to my Mercy main roots! Its a cool feeling revisiting your old main again

Bastion just need its repair back (not as perk) and old ult. That’s all. It always feels different comparing with other DPSes. Cause Bastion critically depends its perks, I don’t think that we have DPS with same fate, corrert me if I’m wrong.
In days of OW1 Bastion was fixable. Devs should decrease its reconfigure times by twice and done. Now they went on little different way, reconfigure times are same, but no longer fully immobile or as I liked to say “hard stunned while reconfiguring”

I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up unduly because this is entirely conjecture on my part but: what if the current perk system is a precursor to a variation system?
In the future it’s possible that certain characters could get an inherent perk tier to choose from (in addition to minor and major tiers) where they select the variation of the character they want to play as. So Bastions could choose between OW1 and OW2 versions in the spawn room. Sym could get a variation with a kit more similar to her Shield Generator version. Orisa could get a variation with barrier from the word go, Supercharger and Halt!. Etc.
That way, it’s not a question of OW1 Bastions versus OW2 Bastions. Each camp can just pick the version of Bastion they wanna roll out with and be on their merry way.
P.S. Give self-repair to current Bastion baseline along with grenade, and come up with some new major perk. Add lava pools to ult explosions so it’s a zoning ult at least. Thanks!

They should give bastion similar perk that what Ball and Hazard have, where they do a bit more damage to tanks. I feel like (almost) all tanks can just stomp Bastion and aren’t even a little concerned. His damage is simply inadequate.
