Scatter Arrow shouldn't be Removed!

This is a thread directed to the developers of the game, and I will say this: If you remove Scatter Arrow, you’re squandering potential. Not only that, but something that could have just been balanced easily, and has been in the game for a while, is being removed in place of a different ability. While you guys believe that the new ability feels good, why don’t you just do the best scenario and keep both Scatter Arrow, and give Hanzo the new ability?

Now by squandering potential, it’s sort of like this: Hanzo could have three abilities. These abilities could be set on a rotation, where one ability button switches to the next and the other switches to the previous ability, and the Right Mouse Button [without LMB] can remove the arrow. That would be a very interesting and fun thing he could have, and that potential may never come to fruition.

Secondly, when I’m talking about how you’re removing an ability that could’ve been balanced, you’re removing one that should have been balanced in the beginning. It was simple enough: reduce the damage, increase the spread or increase the cooldown of the ability. There would’ve been no need to add an ability to replace it, had you gone with at least one of these options, where no one really would’ve been mad.

But now, listen, I think it’s possible you guys can do something great here, still. There’s still time, after all. What I’m trying to say is, keep both abilities, and in turn for keeping both on a rotation, Scatter Arrow can be nerfed, and what I’d prefer is that it deal 300 damage, which is enough to kill any squishy hero if aimed right, but can never kill something it wasn’t meant to kill.

It’s not too late to do something that could lead to a very interesting and great future for Hanzo. Scatter Arrow shouldn’t be removed. It should be used as a foundation for a whole new ability type, as well as something unique to only Hanzo, which happens to be my idea of an Arrow Rotation. C’mon, there’s got to be a chance to try it out, right?

Not even Scatter Arrow could save him from dive. If his new version of double jump and Volley can help him survive even a tick longer, then yes please.

I can’t see how you could balance SA without nerfing his current kit overall. Lowering the damage just makes him even more, dare I say, useless.

Adding too much (e.g new ability, double jump, SA) will just make his kit bloated, and will result in even more complaints.

I’d say just wait for the PTR.

But I think that if Hanzo got the new double jump, ability and had a nerfed scatter arrow, his kit would be stacked, but not bloated. What I’m saying is that at the price of keeping Scatter with the other two abilities, the damage output is worse overall.

I could also see it having a little bit of a higher cooldown to further compensate keeping it. Maybe a 13 second cooldown.

All they had to do is give him a new useful ability. But nooooo… they wan’t to make things more complicated than that.

I think it’s pretty funny that they simply turned him into Sha Lin from Paladins

I wouldn’t want his kit to be stacked. What’s the point of keeping a “nerfed” version of SA when a new ability has greater damage, but you need to be more precise with it?

I like that his abilities are simple and straight forward. Switching between A and B in critical moments seems a little much, especially for people used to playing Hanzo.

He isn’t Torb. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

The problem with Hanzo is that he can 1 shot just about anyone. Roadhog used to be able to hook and 1 shot people and he got nerfed. Scatter Arrow is too OP. If we are going to keep SA then Roadhog hook and kill should be restored.

I think of the nerfed version of Scatter Arrow as more of an anti-ground, or crowd control move to off at least one hero in a ball. With 50 damage, you can only essentially off a single 150 to 250 HP hero compared to potentially killing two 200 HP heroes or a 200 and 250 HP hero. It can also be seen as a compliment to the disengage and new ability, which are both meant to be anti-dive-ish.

And I understand that doing a rotation might feel awkward, but people could easily get used to it at the end of the day.

I still think it’d be more fun to try it. One doesn’t know unless they try it, right?

Slightly off topic, but how is Paladins still in Beta?

Yes, which is why I said that it’d be preferrable for it to deal a total of 300 damage [nerfed from 450], meaning 50 per arrow. This means Hanzo can’t one-shot everyone, and definitely wouldn’t be able to one-shot two heroes at once with it aside from the off chance he hits a hero with 100 or less HP with two miraculously ricocheting Scatter Arrows.

Exactly. Which is why we should wait for the PTR before we panic/worry
about or overthink Hanzo’s changes.

True, though I still believe Blizzard should at least keep an idea like this on their watchlist. Maybe it’ll end up being something they could try in the future.

so they can use it for an excuse for a lot of bugs and match making issues

“Why we fix bugs and polish our game, if we can add come ridiculous mechanic changes nobody asked for”

Scatter absolutely needs to go, I won’t miss it either.

Well welcome to Overwatch! Remember Mercy? Now you guys can see how we Mercy players felt when they removed her ultimate.
Is it annoying and a bad feeling if your liked/favorite hero gets completely reworked? Hell yes

Is there a chance that you will completely lose any interest in playing the hero again? Hell yes

And I do agree, Scatter arrow could be kept in the game only with major changes to it like limiting the max damage it could put out to a single hero or the cooldown increase, or limiting the number of bounces. But the issue isn’t only that it is a powerfull ability. The issue is that it is very frustrating on the receiver end. Doesn’t matter how often Hanzo can spam it. If you see in the killcam that you got killed by a stray arrow comming from the other side of the map, you will feel bad about the game.

The problem with Roadhog one-shotting people is that he is branded a tank and has the stats to boot. He SHOULD NOT be able to one-shot anything. Two or even three shot, maybe but not 1-shot. Hanzo is made of paper and dies just as easily. His scatter being able to one-shot is justified.

Y’know when I play tank and am or nearly killed by a scatter I fail to see your point. “Potential,” ?

How to use Scatter for Dummies:

  1. Find an enemy
  2. Activate Scatter
  3. Aim at ground (or wall/ceiling if you’re feeling spicy)
  4. Release

Congrats! That’s literally the only thing Scatter was made for!

The potential isn’t Scatter Arrow itself, but the idea of the Arrow Rotation itself, or the potential of giving him new arrow types in the future [which would be interesting].

They have said MANY times that they DID try to keep Scatter Arrow but remove the BS of a SNIPER character aiming at floors and walls and being rewarded MORE than landing headshots. It just didn’t work.

Hanzo is already a VERY spotty and inconsistent character; By removing Scatter they now have more room to work on him baseline as well as making him stronger in different areas.

By giving him new tools and new ways to play, it’s easier to work with and balance around. Scatter was holding Hanzo back. Maybe now you will see people EXCITED to have a more consistent Hanzo on their team
