Saving highlights

The highlight system in Overwatch is pretty cool but a problem that I have and probably a lot of other people have is when I have a cool play ready to be saved but I’m still playing with friends maybe before they have to go or something like that. We’ll end up either playing a lot of matches to the point where the highlight gets overwritten or I’ll just forget and it gets overwritten another day.

I suggest they add a way to take any of your top 5 of the day or just any highlight in general and be able to have like an option to put the highlight on the side for it to be saved later so it doesn’t get overwritten by a worse play

you already can.
Press the highlight record button during your potg and it’ll be saved on the bigger list

But you can’t do that when it’s not potg… if it’s just a regular automatic highlight, then you can’t f9 it.

Yeah. this will be good. Sometimes I just want to save a highlight for later without having to waste time recording it right away.

You can hit f9 after you made a big play.

But i personally just go with shadowplay backwards recording.
Recording the last 1 minute.

I can’t capture any highlight besides POTG since many months, I suppose it’s on my end or people would have complained about it but I really don’t get why.

Just record everything with Plays, then I can back and look at bugs and stuff.

Do you know something like Shadowplay that I could get since I don’t have any nvidia gear for my laptop?

Not with the same functionality…
OBS works for recording, but you have to actually start and stop the recording.
F9 does it in theory if you remember to hit it after a huge play.
Only 3x per game and 36max i think.

And its all lost after a patch.

I use f9 and record it manually from the highlights menue with shadowplay / obs bc blizzards save option takes 20min or more while manually recording goes 1sec or as long as the highlight takes.

Theres still… “you guys have phones right?”
Your phone camera… Pls don’t do it!

Game Bar (the same service as Xbox Game DVR) is included with Windows 10 and has the same “record that” functionality.

It had some major compatibility issues with one of the Overwatch patches last year, which led me to switch to Shadowplay. Hopefully those issues are resolved by now.

One thing that really puzzles me, why we still can’t switch the location of the saved videos?

I can promise you that only when the world nears it end will I ever consider using my phone to record a play

Well if you hard save it you can move the video file in theory…

I just want them to be saved, it doesn’t need to rerun the whole game in its engine to allow me to choose resolution and graphic settings…

Just save it fast.

Sure it’s easy, but it’s just annoying to always manually move them.
Obviously I ditched using the feature and just record stuff with shadowplay and made separate audio channels with voicemeeter so if I were to listen music while playing, it wouldn’t get recorded.
This all just because there isn’t a way to decide the save location ingame.
Sure it’s most likely easy to set if you tamper with the game files, but I’m not risking a ban for such minor inconvenience, at least now I have perfect recording setup for all games.
