Sandbagging: An issue worse than One-Tricks

To clarify: Sandbagging is when someone deliberately doesn’t play to one’s fullest potential.

That honestly sounds like throwing, gameplay sabotage, and the likes. But it goes even more so then that.

In QP, I was doing the Sexy Junrkat strategy on Junkertown (Which works if you are playing on high settings). And some guy said he is going to report me for sandbagging. I just shrugged it off, since it was QP and I was just messing around.

Then you get situations like in one of my comp games, where a guy played Torbjorn for the game, and said he is playing some DPS. At first, we understood, seeming as though he was just learning to flex between roles. However, even when we were just getting steam-rolled by the other team, especially their Widowmaker, he kept on making comments like “Why are you guys not pushing?”, “You guys just don’t know how to dive a Widowmaker properly.”, “Are you all throwing or something?”, and to hit the nail on our DEFEAT coffin, he switches to Winston, word for word, saying “I’ll show you how it’s done.”

Jumps in towards the Widowmaker, ALL BY HIMSELF, when the rest of us are still respawning from the massacre the other team just laid on us. And when he died, he asked us, “Where are you guys? Where was my support?”

WE WERE ALL DEAD, BUDDY. IF YOU WANTED TO SHOW US “HOW TO DIVE A WIDOWMAKER PROPERLY”, PLAY WITH US.

We have a Roadhog and Zenyatta (Me) doing everything we can for the first 3 and a half minutes, and you’ve been just sitting in the back, watching all of us get turned into Swiss forking cheese. And by the time you do decide to play with the rest of us, we already lost.

Can we just get rid of players like him? Please?

NOPE, we cannot. They can run right back out and purchase a NEW account the same day and still disrupt the game. UNTIL Blizzard decides to bring player interest back to the game by FIXING it. We are hard-stuck with the same people that spend $100 on purchasing multiple accounts at a time just to prey on others. Yeah, IM not kidding. This literally is going to be a problem until they set their foot down and do SOMETHING about it.

Most likely they will resort to tactics such as Mobile phone verification, PHOTO ID verification or something along those lines and NOBODY will que for the game mode. Simply because they wont build a system that puts accountability back into the game. The first couple of seasons in this game they didn’t allow any NEW accounts to que into competitive, now they do.

Being terrible isn’t really something you can report them for, so short of him choosing to not play OW I don’t really see how you can “get rid of him”. You don’t really have a right to tell him he can’t play just because he’s dumb or arrogant.

What I hate is when people are clearly not being team players but then turn it around on you when you are for not being able to carry everyone with your solo attempt at teamwork.

I had a game on attack of Blizzard World recently. I started out on Symmetra and was doing well for the first push or two. But we only had a Zen for healing and no barrier tanks and as far as I could tell, everyone was constantly walking into damage at every opportunity. Zen swapped to DPS. So I finally swapped to Mercy and got spammed because 5 people were perpetually critical because none of the tanks were doing any tanking. I died multiple items right next to my tanks while trying to stop them from suiciding. All while being spammed for healing from every corner of the map. They didn’t deserve an ounce of effort and when it gets that bad I’m too stubborn to just leave.
