Samito's patch notes

Recently the DPS player Samito put out his “Overwatch’s Path to Success” on twitter and I wanted to break each change down 1 by 1. Side note; I have played at least 10 hours of the current patch and have a good idea of what the game feels like now, so I’ll be going off that.

(I WANT TO STRESS THESE ARE NOT MY IDEAS AND I AM JUST RESPONDING TO THEM AND OPENING THEM UP TO THE FORUMS!)

  • Fortify dmg reduction reduced to 20% and Pull radius reduced "same size as grav lol"

(After playing Orisa in many matches, which included with another barrier and solo tanking, I think it’s safe to say she’s no longer an issue. I don’t think she is as brain dead as before and only really can sustain herself and not much else. In fact there were some matches where I was getting rolled over by a junk and 76 because the heals couldn’t keep up and my barrier and fortify weren’t enough to keep me alive to Tank. This change seems un-needed.)

  • Mei multi-freeze reverted and freeze slow effect removed

(Now I am not a mei player so I cannot speak too in depth on these. I will leave it for Mei players to discuss amongst themselves.)

  • Reaper life steal reduced to 30% and Shadow Step teleport reverted

(I do think Reaper could use just a tiny nerf, like the tiniest knock down. However, I don’t quite see the need to revert the teleport change. He can sustain just a little too well, but I feel like teleport isn’t the issue.)

  • Baptiste spread buff reverted and Immo field health reduced to 150hp

(So, I’d rather nothing happen to Baptiste, but if we HAD to revert one of the recent buffs? I’d rather just see his fire rate decreased and let him keep his accuracy. Also nerfing immo again? You people STILL struggle to shoot a non moving 200 hp target?)

  • Hanzo storm arrow reduced by 1 arrow

(Hanzo has some problems but I think that reducing it by 1 arrow is going to mean nothing. I feel the entire community has many different gripes with this hero and this nerf will literally do nothing to fix that issue.)

  • Genji fire rate and projectile speed increased by 15% and can deflect Sigma Rock

(Ok so deflecting rock is not gonna happen because it’s meant to function that way, but I’ve seen a lot of Geni’s like that idea. However, buffing the 15%? Nah. From a support perspective, in the recent patch alone he is everywhere. Moira and brig together struggle to fight a good Genji without letting everyone die. Sure, Genji gets stunned to death but I’ve also has at least 10 games in new patch where he got blade and we all fall down, so…?)

  • Phara splash damage revert

(Oh yes. Please buff the spam high DPS more now you’ve nerfed shields and heals can’t heal the power creep to save their lives. This was sarcasm. Junk is already proving to be really oppressive and healing has been drastically reduced in effectiveness. Buffing more spam damage would be non nonsensical.)

  • Brigitte armour pack HPS reduced, base health is 250 hp no armour.

(Okay. So after playing Brigitte in this new patch? Please BUFF her. There are no shields to hide behind the help with positioning, her heals barely touch the free damage flying around and now he is REALLY suggesting we nerf her further? This one really got me tilting my head in confusion. She’s so niche. If these nerfs went through you’d gut the character for good and kill her. Fact.)

  • Wreckingball pile drive stops at peak height

(Wreckingball mains? Anything to say about this?)

  • Moira orb ricochet once, grasp life steal reverted but lower the grasp aim hitbox. Wraith cooldown increase by 1 second.

(Sure, why not. None of these stops me from dunking on you as Moira so…? Sure.)

  • Increase Widowmakers charge time by 20%

(Widow mains, this is on you mate)

  • Revert Orisa’s shield hp and revert her HP buff (pre tank patch)

(For as long as Sigma is able to combo with her, they will never do this. Orisa and Sigma got screwed because they encouraged each other so induvidually they both must be trash to compensate for being OP together)

  • Remove or rework Mercy super jump into an in game ability

(Or you could just not? I don’t see the hate for it. Sure it’s a bug that happens to work out in favour of Mercy but who really struggles with this ability? Like who? I’m waiting…)

  • Revert Wreckingballs ability to pop shields in ball form

(Uhhh… why?)

  • Revert Sombra perma invis. 6s invis time with 50% movement increase.

(Her invis isn’t her issue.)

  • Reduce Sleep Dart cooldown by 2s

He briefly mentions reworking Doomfist but didn’t elaborate because it deserves some more in depth discussion.

you should read every hero change before giving your op on it
orisa is reworked in a way that she can keep her bunker while decreasing her power elsewhere like brawling and comboin with other cc.
so its not about being an issue, but about chaning playstyles.

this is very stupid, balance has to with the ability to play and play against.
multi freez is broken and the slow effect removes counterplay.
forces mei to play better and require her team in order to force the enemy teamwork the way she does.

the teleport change makes him uncounterable when escaping.
he didnt need it. the flying mechanic is great.

the changes will remove his unneeded damage. and make him less of a dps beast.
the immo change makes immo a clutch play more then a defensive ult.

hanzo is a sniper.
removing oneshot will make him mccree.

i disagree too.
but the idea is to decrease sigma’s anti flank power.
he already has god dps
id rather not change thus thou i like how it works rn.

this idea is to keep him good against the healing power creep i guess
id rather we nerf stuff then buff genji.

i disagree with the change, pharah is a low skill hero and should stay where she is.

he wants her nerfed cuz it seems like in his pro scrims she’s op? idk but we can wait and see.

once again asking mains is stupid cuz mains like broken stuff.
hammond’s e has no counter play since that buff and allows him to go in and out brainlessly and requires hard cc.
this change only increases his skill floor

im a widow main, asking me is once again stupid, but i do agree that this change is healthy.

keeping it with no specifi animation or no mechanic that controls its power is wierd in terms of game design so i do think theu should work around it.

her invis allowz her to perma camp.
removes counterplay.

the general idea of sam here is to make abilities require more thinking then just press
and i think it would help the game go back into its roots which is skill based gameplay accross all hero interactions.

I get what he is going for, BUT Sigma still exists! For as long as he does, this rework will cause hell. I can already see the double shield is back comments now.

I don’t know anything about Samito, but I’m going to guess that he doesn’t like supports.

Sombra’s infinite stealth isn’t an issue but it’s still a meh trade to what we used to have.
Would rather have had some of the many damage thresholds suggestions to stop losing stealth from a sneeze.

That’s what I thought. I was under the impression her damage was the issue and being unstealthed by 1 damage and hack cancelled by 1 damage.

Samito is a low plat player. He makes conetnt on youtube where he cry Moira mains out for being braindead and that Moira is brocken.

I am asking the mains’ because although they will have some biased, I don’t want to comment on a hero I don’t play. Commenting on heroes when you only play against them can only improve the discussion so much. I appreciate your comment mate

it doesnt require a main to kno how a hero plays, you can play all heroes like i now their strenghts and weeknesses, while not calling yourself a main of all heroes.
asking mains for opinions on heroes is like asking onetricks.

hero being everywhere doesnt mean they are “balanced”
That hero absolutely gets deleted by that has cc or just plain sucks due to how lack luster his actual kit is rn.

How is Moira struggling to hold M2 at him for 4 seconds?
Moira is going to be at backline if genji is there, what is making her struggle to do that?

She legit produces inspire like that. She legit gets alot more than genji for fighting him.

Ok so what I am seeing is that you got outplayed by him alot and you are just mad someone suggested buffs for him?
You legit let mei and hammond mains discuss the nerfs given to them but you talked about genji with zero knowledge of the hero, with zero facts to back up your talk and bias.

Like I dont aggree with some of the buffs/nerfs and specifically the buffs he gave for genji because they kinda uselessbut like for real. Why are you talking about genji as if you know anything about him? and with bias?

Literally not mad at him at all.

In fact when I do die to him, I feel it’s fair game as he is a difficult hero to master for sure. The comment about Moira and Brig is that in this new patch, not only is Moira drastically less potent (as she should be) but that also means she does MUCH less when trying to fend off Genji. (again as it should be) Brigitte is even worse now as her healing output is meh compared to someone like Lucio BUT she is also VERY squishy will no barriers to help her.

I am fully aware that he isn’t broken, and nowhere did I state such. I am simply saying he finally in a better place in the recent patch and that these buffs will only serve to over buff him. The rock one not so much, but increasing his attack speed by 15% That’s hefty. I feel Genji is in a better place now.

Can someone explain to me why sleepdart needs decreased cd?

Some good ideas on paper (I use that lightly), bad ideas and heavily biased ideas.

I’d rather have Mei keep the multi-freeze effect but have it take longer to freeze larger targets (or weaken her ice wall a bit more or make her cryosleep breakable)

The Wrecking Ball changes would turn him into a near throw pick outside of some niche conditions. I’m talking neutered Hog levels bad here.

Orisa would suck with these changes.

Reaper I can see his life steal dropped to 35% but reverting his shadow step to meme levels bad again isn’t what he needs.

Baptiste would need some serious compensations for those changes. Whether that be a lower Immortality cooldown, regen burst or a wider amp matrix. Also lamp on 150hp is insulting for a deployable utility.

Hanzo got off easy with that change. :thinking: I wonder why?

If Genji would deflect Accretion, I’d want Accretion on a shorter cool down. Because it’s well telegraphed, has a windup animation with an audio que and inflicts self damage if used close. So no to those changes.

Slash damage isn’t what Pharah needs. Give the girl some armor over some of her hp and she’d fair a bit better.

Brigitte could use a 250hp shield imo and she’d be fine. She’d suck with those other changes suggested.

Another Moira nerf. I swear some people just want to be spoon feed for the rest of their lives.

Widowmaker nerf is a tap on the shoulder. Why not have her consume more ammo per shot or some sort of laser sight to deter scooping in for too long and providing a little counterplay?

Don’t have complains about super jump. She needs an ally to do it and is not always situational.

Lastly sleep dart? I’d rather tone down anti-nade a little or tone down Nano boost a bit.

No mention on 76 buffs (I’d just give him reload while sprinting as a qol change) or changes to Junkrat, Roadhog, Winston, Zenyatta, Bastion, Sigma, Lucio yada yada makes me feel this is an incomplete list. So we can’t grasp the bigger picture.

I’d argue it’s part of her issue. She relies on it to stealthily sneak around, however while she’s invisible. She’s doing nothing.

If it was on a resource meter for example and gave her a speed boost it’d be more ideal for her to cloak, do stuff, cloak and get out (maybe translocate out) So there’s a little counter play to her stealth besides a recon ability, an ultimate and bumping into her.

You could even adjust it so her stealth breaks once it reaches a damage threshold but have her ‘flicker’ when hit.

Of course there’s numbers that’d have to be worked out and whether or not one or two of these changes together would be problematic together :man_shrugging:

he doesn’t propose any change to doomfist YET offer significant nerfs to half the cast… I WONDER WHY I CAN’T TAKE THIS GUY SERIOUSLY
