Placing this in bug report instead of tech support because I tracked down my issue and it’s definitely an Overwatch problem based on the timing of Season 12 launch being the start of the issue.
Basically, since season 12 launched I’ve been getting the “crashed graphics driver” error within minutes of starting any match in OW2. I went on a brief hiatus due to some real life issues and came back to the issue still going unfixed. However, instead of trying the CPU underclock tricks that people have mentioned (which frankly I shouldn’t be forced to do), I instead disabled Steelseries Moments capture for Overwatch and the error stopped entirely.
One could try to say that Steelseries’ software is at fault here. However, their software didn’t take an update the day OW2 season 12 launched, so the issue is clearly a problem with how OW2 is handling multithreading when another app is also doing the same or hooked on to its process. This was not a problem before the season 12 update.
My system specs if it helps with reproducing internally:
- Intel Core i9-13900K (running at stock clock)
- ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4080 OC edition (running at stock clock)
- G.Skill Trident Z5 64 GB memory running at DDR5-6800
- Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master motherboard (with default BIOS settings)
