It never ceases to amaze me how the generation of level designers after the original OW team has zero idea how the game works, none, zero. And with Runasapi, this is on show for all to see.
Stuck with the same looping push map design constraint, to make it different they opened it up. Which feels fresh for sure, but there’s a reason that feels fresh. Overwatch just doesn’t work in that setting. Many heroes rely on a degree of choke or enclosure. Moira perhaps is the most obvious of these, but reaper is another. No doubt this is part of the reason why they are reworking him. At the same time giving huge advantage to the half the cast of heroes with any sort of range.
Whether intentional or simply haphazard and carless, it shows the quality of game design we can look forward to in Overwatch.
The signs are clear. If it isn’t a skin… or something else they can sell, then it’s bargain-basement time.
Coupled with the low player numbers that are obvious from all the matches facing the same players over and over towards the end of Season 10, the writing is on the wall for Overwatch. It’s greatest moments are truly behind it.
