The video breaks down some tests with some great players that higher FPS gives you an advantage due more information being available to you.
I think its pretty obvious especially after making the switch, when I was locked at 60 fps keeping track of Genji/Tracers zipping around was very hard, at 100+ FPS even if they’re dancing around me as bastion I can easily keep track of them.
went from 60Hz to 144Hz
then 144Hz to 240hz
both are very noticeable
Another great watch covering a similar aspect (input lag in Overwatch specifically, even):
This shows how GPU usage can affect your input lag, and that being at max GPU usage is not the best for your input lag. Can really help reduce your input lag if you set it up correctly.
It definitely helps and gives people a little boost but it’s really just when it comes to mechanics and reacting. You can still get to the high ranks with a bad setup.
And yet, we still can’t get ultra wide support because that would be too much of an advantage
Everyone is saying it helps, and I 100% agree with everyone saying it helps.
But I also wanna say that having those extra frames doesn’t do much if you still suck at the game(talking about myself)
I spent the largest majority of my PC gaming career playing at less than 30-35 FPS in almost every game I’ve played.
To name a game that I played a lot of and at REALLY low FPS was SMITE. I have 1100 hours in the game. And I spent over 1k of those hours at less than 30 FPS.
Now at 150, which I think is cap for SMITE. I can safely say it hasn’t made me any better. I’m playing the same as I was at the less than 30 FPS. I’m just able to keep track of things easier and have a better rendering distance.
So all in all. Yeah a higher FPS is better for you in the long run. But unless you have the skill to improve upon getting that FPS you probably won’t jump in skill level just because of a better FPS. You’ll definitely improve, but not as much as you’d hope.
I’d say I’m more or less at the same level as 144FPS (I used to visit a gaming cafe that had fancy setups) at 60 with high precision mouse input.
That thing slaps man, it slaps.
Things gotten so crisp its ridiculous
but does it increased your rank? improved your performance?
Since going to a 144 hz monitor I run all my games that high, even Witcher 3, at the risk of frying my laptop. Everything just looks so much better.
60 to 144 definitly
144 to 240 for tracking yes
