This is a prime example of Blizzard’s horrible management decisions shooting them in the foot. It all started when someone made the strange decision to part from streaming OWL on multiple platforms for a Youtube exclusive deal. Then Double Shield for 2 years with no patch, OW2, 5V5 and more… This game’s worst enemy is it’s own creators.
So weird to see these topics crop up whenever there’s a new fancy skin or Mythic.
Hero sucks = “Ha, look how STUPID Blizz is for selling cosmetics for a dead hero!”
Hero is good = “Evil greedy Blizz is making this hero OP to boost sales for this skin!”
Are only perfectly balanced heroes allowed to get cosmetics? How is the art team supposed to predict a heroes state like 6 months down the line when they start concepting? I’m sure almost every hero whose gotten one of these esport skins was either OP or weak at the time of it’s release. Refund them all I guess.

This was part of a much larger deal regarding moving all ABK server hosting from AWS to Google servers. Even then, OWL was basically a separate entity from Team 4 after they made the team color skin tool and occasionally some assets, which was also used for OWWC. The devs would have had little to nothing to do with this even if weren’t a larger thing.
Actual trillion dollar company asking their customers for money to run their esports tournament with is a new level of incompetence.
The worst part is that people will still line up around the block for it and say “What, are you poor? I can afford it because I have a job at McDonald’s!”
Even though i bought some skins from the shop (including both Porsche skins), in this case, im NOT going to “crowdfund” a slowly dying e-sports franchise.
And yet you conveniently leave out where I vaguely stated “someone” made the strange decision to do so. Never once blaming Team 4 or the dev team. Keep coping though.
I do agree that this is a bad look, but let’s not pretend this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of tactic of “rich people asking the poor people to pay for their stuff”.
For example, Blizzard pulled a similar tactic in 2023 with the World Cup. With $500,000 sent to the prize pool at the time of the World Cup Finals (as revealed by the casters at the time), that meant at least $2,000,000 was spent on crowdfunding bundles.
Then there’s billion dollar sports teams overseen by billionaire owners asking for public taxpayer money to build shiny new stadiums with a threat to relocate if they don’t get that money.
And don’t even get me started on American politics and religion and the various ways it’s exploited for monetary gain…
Don’t act like we don’t know who you’re referring to - you can be as vague as you like, some folks will see right through you and know who you’re referring to.
Ok… assume what you want child you won’t be responded to any further…
Wow - only 8 posts in and OP has already brought out the ad hominems.
Doesn’t give me a ton of hope with the actual children just days away from getting out of school for the summer (if they are not already out of school) and making these forums quite a mess…
It’s funny cause it’s true. Reminds me of the pre season 10 threads
“Mercy is getting a mythic, watch they’re gonna make her busted to sell the mythic”
Followed by
“Mercy has a mythic and she’s one of the worst heroes in the game! What gives blizzard buff mercy!”
