So i know Jeff is not a fan of role select and he doesn’t want to put it in qp or competitive. However why can’t we get it as an Arcade mode. A mode were only 2 2 2 is possible. Because I don’t care too much about my rank and all I want in OW is to have fun. And I have most fun when I have a 2 2 2 comp. If someone wants to play different combs like 4 tanks he would have to play qp or comp.
Another more simple idea would be, to make it possible to limit a role in the Game Browser so that we can create our own 2 2 2 modes.
I think this shouldn’t be to much of an effort to implement and would help to make OW a lot more fun for many people until Jeff comes up with a better solution for the problem.
This would also work as a good testing ground to see if it should be implemented in competitive or other modes. And I agree. I could care less about my rank. Why not give it a shot?
But that’s kind of the point. If it works, we will see it work in the arcade. At that point, it might be good to actually implement it in competitive, but again, only if it works.
I mean basically only the people who support it already will play the arcade mode and say “YEP! IT’S WORKS!” even if it doesn’t. It will not be good to implement in competitive because a large amount of players are against it and so are the devs so we have the power of Jeff on our side.
The arcade is a horrible place to test anything that can replace competitive, nothing should replace competitive.
well if the majority of the ranked players will prefer an arcade mode with role select… nothing more needs to be said. you are just afraid that blizz will have finally proof.
You are here claiming a system needs to change while just saying “the majority wants it” because I’ve also seen the opposite. I’m not afraid that Blizzard will finally have “proof” because there is none, its as my other post said. The supporters will get as loud as they can even if they are in the minority. That’s why the top 1% gets heard because they have the loudest voices in the community even though there aren’t too many of them.
Arcade is not a good place to test something as big as deleting competitive mode in favor of something that forces 2/2/2. Why in the world do you want to forcibly restrict yourself? Games are for having fun and being competitive, in no other game I play is there a role queue and they work just fine.
The amount of people who want a role select system is rising everyday. Most of the people i know are getting sick of Overwatch and stop playing it because it is just no fun to have always 5 insta lock dps. I am a flex player, but in Overwatch this basically means you play tank or healer. Because if you want to be a dps you have to instalock dps and don’t switch off it no matter what. The problem that Overwatch has is, that there are way too many DPS players. If there would be a 2 2 2 system, the dps players would have to wait a lot longer than the healers or tanks. So there is a big chance that many of these dps players would think about trying another role. It would balance the amount of players of every role. And all these dps onetricks who refuse to switch to another role would just have to hazard the consequences and wait a little longer. I would love to hear your reason why you are against a role select system, because I don’t really see some.
It could be also tested on the PTR first, but it wouldn’t really matter. Also you couldn’t test how long it takes to queue as DPS in the PTR because not so many player play it. So yes I think the Arcade would be a good place for testing this new system.
We only want to forcibly restrict ourself because a lot of players don’t know how to play as team and we are having less fun because others think they always have to play dps. If everybody would be a flex player nobody would have a problem and we wouldn’t need a role select system, but that’s not the case.
And yes you are saying it yourself: Games are for having fun, but many players don’t have fun right now when you have 4 dps in your team almost every game.
OP is asking for it to be given a shot in an arcade mode to test player reaction. I don’t see why you should consider it initially hostile if it’s for testing purposes and not a system that changes everything entirely.
Find me statistics that show me otherwise or I will be stuck in a mental loop of anticipation where only answers can provide a cure for all of us.
I don’t have statistics I only have the opinions of my friends and the people of my discord. And i know nobody that likes to play with 3 or 4 dps in their team.
If you see it as a punishment to switch your role in a game that is all about switching your hero than yes i “want to punish them”.
No it won’t cause the role select system would be just for queueing so you get queued with people that want to play that role. However if u then decide as team that it is okay or that 4 tanks would be a good composition right now, then you would still be able to switch off ur role. All role select does is putting 2 of each role into one game. Then people can still decide which hero they pick. However if you pick a role and always switch off it (for example queue as supporter but then pick a DPS at the beginning of the match) then you can be reported.
You are the one proposing the idea, you have to give proof why such a system is wanted and/or needed. I don’t have to prove anything unless you give me something to prove/disprove.
I bring this up a lot but if this were an actual debate you would have dropped all of the argument by now and I would have won. You have no proof why it should change and if we need it, why.
You made a blunder right there. In a game about switching, you want to role lock people so they cannot switch. You don’t want switching, you want someone to be forced into a role from the very start of the match and they cannot change it.
I’m more open to this idea but you’ve taken my words out of context. The post I was referring to was from you and you were specifically talking about a 2/2/2 system. Next time, read in context.
Maybe I first have to explain my idea of a role select system:
When you start a queue you will have to choose one of three roles: Sup, DPS, and tank.
Then the system puts you in a game with people that clicked the other roles so in theory there should be 2 players that want to play tank, 2 that want to play sup and 2 that want to play dps. But from here on everything is like it already is. Everyplayer can pick theoretically every hero, however if you only queue as sup to find a game faster and then play dps, then you can get reported.
The problem we have right now is, that we have way too many dps onetricks that refuse to switch. This system will help to balance the amount of players of every role in a game. And if I understood Jeff right in his video on this topic, than he thinks the same. I’m sorry if I’m not making any sense xD I’m not a native speaker so my english is not the best.
Well, it is not really forcing. Right now you go into a match and then decide which role you play. All this system does is asking you what role you wanna play before you enter a match. I don’t understand how you can prefer getting queued by random with almost every time ending with a team that lacks tank or supps.
I approve of this. If it works well in arcade, well there we have it. The ppl will have spoken what they PREFER to play.
Id propose this:
Give us symbol’s/markers matching the different roles of the ‘types’ in overwatch, bellow our character rank portraits. Displaying what role we have selected.
Support, tank, offensive, defensive. (Other, aka sym cause ya’ll dont see her as a support)
The arcade game will then try to place 2 2 2 of each together as BEST AS POSSIBLE. But allowing for2 1 3. or 1 2 2 (1-sym) etc.
But it will -try- not to put 5 defensive players together. To not place 5 supports together.
UNLESS.
a 6man premade group que’s then its a free for all. In this mode, a full 6man premade would be the only way to pick any hero no matter what role you picked.
