Hey Blizz - just a quick question - while I personally love 2-2-2 and am fine with the system as is, wasn’t there discussion of a priority system with roles, where say DPS mains could specificy DPS as a preferred role, then denoting Tank and support (if queued) as lower priorities to speed queue times?
I have no idea if there was ever a discussion, but the idea of prioritizing one role would be pretty cool. I’m not personally sure how it would work to lower q times though without just putting you into the tank or support roles.
It would but only if the dps queue times are too long. Then the next match it would give higher priority over others if you got you 2nd priority last match
Ohh. That might work then, I wouldn’t be mad at a system like that.
i dont get exactly what you mean like ur team decide what u play before u join them ?
I think he’s suggesting that when queueing for multiple roles that you are able to pick one for the queue to prioritize over the others.
Well obviously that’s the point - better to do something than nothing.
Yes a I seem to recall I thought Jeff K talking about it like it was a possibility but maybe I read too much into it. It still seems to make sense to do, and the more you prioritize it could track and elevate you if you don’t get in right away.
that is not a terrible idea but also not a good idea
This idea ignores the fact that the 3 queues will always be of differing sizes.
How would it weigh your priority? what condition needs to be satisfied in order to go with a lower priority choice? if you queue for DPS/Tank and tank is available now but DPS isn’t…does it wait?
Everything you do costs developer time.
How frequently do you see such a system acting to the benefit of the user or the overall system?
Curious why not? If you in turn got a boost in the priority one queue by doing a game in a lower priority role, that would be a benefit.
What I left out was there was some ideas floating around of in effect giving you greater priority to get into the role you had as first priority by accumulating time spent in other roles. So, if you got say Support as you r least liked role first, you moved up in the DPS queue if that was your first priority role, and to a lesser extent in tanking.
i think it might lead to soft throwing … the thing is people really wanna play what they wanna play. and pretty much everything after priority number 1 is i dont wanna really play it but i dont want to keep waiting … i know this because in a lot of games where i fill i am forced to play something that i really didnt plan to play so i play half heartly i know a lot of other players who do it and then they keep switching within the role a lot during the game
Didn’t think about that. Maybe if you win the game the priority shifts
I don’t know I think you can just quit the q and research I think psychologically that would be better
I’m of the opinion that playing the lowest queue roll will increase your chances of playing the higher queue rolls.
So if you play one game as a tank, signing up as a dps afterward should offer you more priority.
There, it’ll reward your flexibility.
Thats a thought…
Yeah me too, this is what I am after. I really was surprised there was no role priority system to address DPS concerns over long wait times.
I don’t see how the preference would come into play unless there’s some sort of time threshold before the lower preferences come into play.
e.g.
- Queue for DPS (preferred) and Support.
- Wait for up to 3 minutes for a DPS slot.
- If one comes open, take it
- After 3 minutes, take the first DPS or Support slot that’s available
Without that, I just don’t understand how you envisage it working, because otherwise the game might put you into a Support role after 30 seconds even though you prefer DPS.
