Role queue needs to go

He wants league of legends, draft pick no hero swapping lol

Imagine losing a game because the enemy team last picked pharah and all you have is junkrat and reaper lmaooooooo

The longest tank queue I’ve had since launch is just barely over 3 minutes. Both DPS & Support are typically under a minute. That’s not bad at all. Role queue needs to stay.

Primary & secondary role choices are terrible because the less popular one (likely your secondary role) will be the one you almost always get.

I mean…it’s definitely an interesting idea though! Obviously definitely NOT to replace the main game mode but I guess it could be fun in Arcade?

Try reading my post and not just the title :slightly_smiling_face:

Nah. I saw your name and a wall of text.

Again no need to write a wall of text though, someone just described your entire post in one sentence.

But like I said, it’s a cool idea for Arcade maybe.

I’ve never rooted for Role Queue in the first place but with 6v6, it still got some sense with the symmetrical 2-2-2 composition.

5v5 with Role Queue and 1-2-2 makes it not sustainable because your fun at the game can be ruined by the solo tank player so easily and you can’t do anything about it, not even switch roles with them if they’d agree.

There are half the tanks that are useless against a good Widowmaker so if your tank can’t play tanks that can counter her (or simply doesn’t want to), you’ll basically struggle until the end of the game…You’re stuck in a state where you ask yourself what’s best to do :

  1. Go afk and wait until the steamroll ends and move on to the next match with the risk of getting reported by players, especially the stubborn tank player.

  2. Try your best to work with the 3 other teammates even though you might get punished in terms of personal performance if you die too much which will take its toll on your rank progression after the upcoming 7 wins.

Those type of situations the game is putting you in is not fun for anyone to experience. This needed more testing and thinking before being pushed to the live version. They didn’t, just like they didn’t for RQ with 6v6 in 2019. Very discouraging.

What if people never end up getting their main roles due to how popular it might be?

I can already imagine people complaining because “I only get my secondary role!”

The problem is - how are you going to solve the problem of “who picks first”? It’s always, always going to be that the x2 DPS and 1 tank slots will be insta-locked and then whoever was the last to pick will always end up with having to pick supports. Imagine your average DPS player in that position? They will…

  • Insta-leave the game
  • Throw in spite
  • Be demotivated and do awful job

So this won’t work. Role queue has one nice property - you know what you’re bargaining for prior to the deal. Drafts will never do this. Besides of that, drafts will be a huge waste of time. Even if a person takes 5 seconds to pick a hero, that’s 10x5 = almost extra minute added on top of existing delays (time to find the match, time to start the match etc) to the match time.

That’s already the complaint for queuing for Flex lol

“It’s just SupportQ in disguise!”

It is though. I don’t mind, I need to finish my challenges, and I main support. But so far 19/20 times it has been support. The other time it was tank.

Flexing is supposed to give you the least played role with the fastest queue times, in this case support.

OP suggested a game mode where you should get your main option most of the time, but realistically most people who play popular roles would get their second option instead.

That is not what I suggested. I suggested draft pick and no swapping for the first minute or two of the game then freely swapping after that. It’s just to prevent blind picks at match start where you can get rolled for something out of your control.

No. Just no.

Role queue is essential for this game. No matter what system you implement the will be issues because the problem isn’t the game or the system itself, but the people playing it. You can’t fix the people. You can encourage certain behavior, and curtail other behavior, but at the end of the day if little Timmy is determined to play Genji at all costs, there isn’t much one can do about it.

Your new system will have the exact same issues, they’ll just manifest in different ways gameplay wise.

That’s because you’re thinking in terms of the current overwatch queue system that’s doing nothing but throwing matches together asap. League of legends has the system I suggested and it works really well. There are algorithms you can put in place behind the scenes to ensure people get their primary role more often than their secondary.

RoleQ saved Overwatch. Deal with it

Same thing happens in your system… My team’s tank picks roadhog, dps pick first and lock reaper and junkrat…so the enemy dps picks pharah and gets to free rain the start of the game w/o very little counter player.

After they made support free-lo it worked. Before support was broken, no one played it and people got autofilled supp all the time. So they buffed every single supports damage and survivability, tripled the amount of items they had, increased their gold generation and decreased the early power of the ADC. Making it so support is basically the god-king of bot lane for the first 15m of the game.

Pretty much the tank treatment in OW2 lol. So unless we want to see Orisa level supports in OW, it won’t work like in league.

They play exactly the same in my experience: Every match is just a coin toss, team averages are more important than team composition, and whoever has the least trolls wins.

It’s literally an even amount of counter picks from both teams. No my fault you fail to understand that.

Wrong, their DPS picks after team 1’s. Both of them. Meaning team 1’s DPS have no counter pick for either of team 2s. Both tanks have already picked at this point as well so AGAIN no counter for that DPS.

Team 1 picks tank first. Team 2 tank picks 2nd getting the tank counter pick. Because I believe a tank counter pick is more valuable than any counter pick in the game, I put both team 2s dps picking after so team 1 gets both counters on their dps. You’re being a nuisance trying to argue these details. It’s just a suggestion that blizz would decide the details of. This post is more for the devs eyes, not to argue with less intelligent formers. They’ve implemented some of my suggestions in the past.
