Role queue in other hero shooter games

does it exist?

paladins is open queue, marvel rivals is… dont know about concord? are there role limits in other hero shooters?

is it suicide for new hero shooter games to do this or bad judgement since yea the playerbase will dwindle eventually and more people favor dps over tank-protectiong and support-healbotting

wondering about concord since i never looked it up or played it. i would assume its open queue only ?

of course mmorpgs have role limits and maybe some mobas. something overwatch was trying to include since a lot of heroes have traits from different genres including fighting games. still… mmorpgs always has had problems maintaining a healthy balance of tank-dps-heals

As far as I know the only other hero shooter that had mandatory role systems was Evolve, and that was because it was an asymmetrical 4 vs 1 game, no other game in this genre has had the need to limit compositions with a system similar to Role Queue, mainly because they have never had balance problems as bad as the GOATS meta.

Most of them didn’t last long enough to have the issues role queue solves.

I dont play MMO, but what is a ratio of a raiding party?

Marvel rivals ranked will die fast without role Q, the rng in it is just too huge.

Unranked role q, ranked role q and qp/arcade no role q should be standart…

They are vastly different games. That’s why most other games don’t need role lock.

It’s already got people demanding others play Tank or Support because too many DPS locks. Definitely needs RQ

OW needs role queue, because how dependent heroes are on each other and mainly how dependent tank is on support, support on DPS and DPS on the tank. Not to mention that you can switch in OW.

As far as I know, Rivals has already a problem that too many people only play DPS and not enough play tank and support, even in comp and people want a fix. You can guess what they will implement rather sooner than later or the game just goes up in flames.

If there are other games, where you can swap heroes, tanks/supports exist and where teamplay is more optional than mandatory, then maybe. But as far as I know there is none, besides Rivals.

Unfortunately the only character I like so far in Rivals is Storm. So part of the problem although finding it difficult to like and want to play other heroes even in DPS side.

If the rivals devs are smart, they won’t be following the path of OW and repeating the same mistakes.

Depends on mmos and raids themselves. I used to be in a pretty famous raiding clan in eso a long time ago. We usually ran 2 to 3 tanks , 4 supports and the rest were various damage dealers. Some had builds that allowed them to swap from dps and support into tank by changing gear.

But this wasnt always consistent, again depnded on the raids themselves. Some needed more support and tank, some less

Ah, love how the cycle continues. This is exactly why team 4 does not listen to the community.

6v6 play test going to be real fun seeing tanks still be a problem, no wait, an even bigger problem because they either going to be too squishy to live or too OP together. It will never be a mix.

I’ll stick with 5v5. Rather deal with 1 mini raid boss than a shatter/grav combo.

What would those mistakes be?

Marvel rivals will get role queue or become as irrelevant as paladins

I’ve already seen people flame eachother for not having enough tanks/supports on the team

Open queue is not sustainable

Arent supports pumping out healing more absurd than overwatch in rivals? The games i played on support felt broken, and theres no antihealing as far as i know

Probably Brigitte…? but even so, they made her work in the end.

People only hate Overwatch because they suck at it. They think they’ll be the next Bogur or Flats on Marvel Rivals and are trying to bank on it (they will be hard stuck low ranked in every game they play)

I played Rivals for 5 hours today, people complained about too many dps in exactly one game. 99% of the time, open queue is working just fine for it.

Having instant queues leads to less complaining than that one occasional game where too many people pick dps.

It’s not sustainable and it’s hilarious how didn’t even go long before it. 6v6 by having it open never ever work.

If it’s already happening in the honeymoon phase, christ the game isn’t even out of beta, how do you think it’ll be once the game is live for a few months?
