I honestly believe what you said about different SR’s for different roles for each player is the way to go.
I’m against Role Queue.
Please give us a Player Directory to work in tandem with LFG.
You can sort the Player Directory by SR, heroes played, etc
This right here, man. This is what I want to see. This way, we can all have the game experience we want. You want to play 2-2-2, awesome, heres a box for you. You want to play QP, as it is now, cool, heres a box for you. And so on.
I’m all for options. I love options. What I won’t want is to be strong armed into playing a game the way I don’t want to play it.
I bought (and continue to spend money) on OW, because of the freedom it gives you in its roles, heroes, and the ability to switch between those roles when needed be.
If 2-2-2 was the only team Comp allowed in modes like QP, it would stop me from playing this game. Or, I would go to Arcade only.
Basically, I don’t take kindly into being forced to do something I don’t want to do. Especially, in a game like OW, that has always promoted a freedom to play who/how you want in its game design.
That being said, I get why 2-2-2 is very popular. And I understand why people want the game to be this way. So, I think the images in your post are a great idea. It could make OW the game we all can play the way we want. And I think that’s great
The only issue i see, is that there arent 3 roles in OW. There are 6. So those 2 tank players you mentioned may both be main tanks, which is an issue. And in the current meta DPS players are on a support or tank hero, so what happens then?
Hey Jeff, Welcome back to the community and posting with us. It makes the game fun to have developers dropping back in again!!!
This is sorta on the topic of exactly what you are talking about.
Hey, I kinda was wondering why The current Match maker drops a widowmaker main, in on the enemy team, at any one point in time where a leaver occurs. But only if there is a widow player currently in the match. Otherwise it seams to not do this.
Thank you!
Have you thought about a role-preference que? Where I just select what I would like to play between DPS, Tank, Support, or Flex. And then the matchmaker puts a balanced team together and everyone gets a little icon by their name just like in LFG. But nothing would be forced, and we would still be able to play the entire cast if we want a unique comp or need to counter something. I feel like this is a good compromise for both sides of the role-que debate.
Then stop the mercy mains with 1000+ hours on them and 0 time on dps in all modes from playing dps…
Part of the reason we got private profiles was because people got fed up of being told to Tank because they could be seen to have Tanked a lot, so couldn’t get the chance to DPS/Support.
People already had that expectation, reinforcing it even harder with actual hard coding would be awful.
Plot twist, they’re in bronze
DPS should have long ques.
It encourages people to play tank/healers if you dont want to wait.
It will only encourage D.Va, Roadhog, Zarya, maybe Hammond. It won’t encourage the Barrier tanks that people actually want. Mostly Hog, because Hog is the Tank for players to “Tank” on who don’t want to Tank.
Yeah sure, just saying that in general if it comes to a role que, DPS should have the longer wait times regardless of the specific system that is put in place.
There are ofcourse problems involved like you said with dps just picking hog etc
Of course it will, and it will only validate those DPS players maining and one-tricking to do so; so expect much less switching to counter from them.
I saw in your recent interview about role queue you talked about the calculations in regard to additional waiting time
I think in my mind I imagine a future where there are multiple competitive queues to join, I think it could be really great to give the player an estimated queue time for each based on current players/queues/games in progress etc.
I think this would work really well, since it’s what the players want but also you want to give the players as much information regarding their choice as possible
Does he struggle with tp and railings and survivability?
100% agree.
Personally I think it should lock 2-2-2, and have the player set to preferences prior to queuing. Not a hard set explicit role queue, but say something like, “My first choice right now is DPS, but I’d rather play a round as Tank than not play, and I guess I can pay Support if I have to”
Maybe add one veto option where you can specifically say “I would love to play support, I’ll play Tank if I have to, don’t ever put me on DPS.”
That would let people remove a role they really don’t want to play, but would keep the queue times for damage players sane.
Lock people into their role at the start of the match and swap roles around, if needed, when playing the mirror match.
Allow a “swap role” feature on hero select where someone can offer it request to swap to a different role.
Maybe even allow role swap mid match by allowing a player to request a role swap while they’re respawning, then if someone accepts swapping with them, they will both be locked to the other’s role next time they die or go to hero select. (I know this would not be simple to implement, especially not in a user friendly way, and could potentially be advised if additional restrictions are not put into place, but could be worth fleshing out a proof of concept it something?)
Hi Jeff,
Sorry this is off topic but I don’t know where else to go and every time I suggest something, it gets buried really fast.
For this year’s Chinese New Year, we didn’t get the Pig spray like we did for the dog and rooster. Is there a reason for this? And can you add it? Thanks.
But then damage players woudlnt play their preferred role/hero hardly ever.
I doubt the truth about this word. 700 hours still can’t find sym what she really need and so many bug did’t fix. What can i say?
Yes, the entirety of Overwatch has been developed by the live ops producer, and continues to be. He does everything by himself, the others are unnecessary, they just sit around doing crayon drawings. /s
