Role queue and 5v5

Worst two decisions made besides lying about the pve. Justsaying. Return 6v6 open queue as the focus and some of the leavers would happily return. It was the height of overwatch. Ever since we been sinking slowly.

Yeah I loved queueing for a game and having to worry about not getting a single healer on my team.

Role q was a necessary evil imo and I don’t mind it much but 5v5 has no reason to exist.

At end of OW1 2-2-2, we had 8 tanks, 17 damage, & 7 supports. The more tanks & supports they add, the better role queue gets.

And plenty more of us would leave.

Role queue killed the spirit of the game which was hero swapping. Most of the playerbase quit because of it.

Goats was a result of open queue. Unless you didn’t play the game then, you would know that that was the worst state of overwatch. Not having content for 2 1/2 years was better than goats.

Goats was the result of Brig. If the developers playtested their game at all they would have known Brig was not ready for the public.

Okay, but goats was worked around by making role queue after nerfing brig like 7 times and still being broken.

To add on top of that, I personally don’t know a single content creator or pro that plays open queue competitively, it’s not used by owl or e-sports either. Role is more balanced and skill based, like it or not.

We don’t need those people back tbh

Keep role queue, remove role lock. That’s how it works in LoL. The game is 30 times bigger than OW and 99% of people respect the role they were assigned.

Although, LoL actually has some kind of sense for balance so picking only heroes from a certain role puts you at a disadvantage. Something the OW balance team has struggled with since the game’s inception.

This is missinformation.

The interview people got this from was talking about the 2019 plans for OW2, as in the single bulk product that was suppose to release. And not specifically PVE.

When the follow up question was ask, they were still on that topic.

And Aaron responds with his thought process that lead him to releasing PVP early.

Which was old news, as we knew all that for a while now. Including the going all in part on PVP’s launch. Which happened, and resources moved back around.

What actually killed hero missions and Skill trees, were do to the lead devs of both leaving about a month ago. Most likely do to the RTO policy that kicked in around that time.

So you can most likely blame higher ups such as bobby for those being cancelled.

I liked role queue when it initially launched but it was one of the contributing factors to the downfall of Overwatch. The spirit of the game is learning as many different characters across the roles to fit the situation. Flexing is Overwatch.

Nothing more satisfying to be an off healer but seeing your rein struggling so you swap Zarya to back him up and win. After the first few months of role queue I consistently got irritated being forced to one role when I knew I could change and then the match around.
Blizzard needs to look at Overwatch during its peak and bring the game closer to that

I’d love for blizzard to use the experimental and try this a few weeks. Give me the option to swap tank or support mid match if the other agrees

Gross. No thank you.

6v6 and open queue can return when roles are removed and everyone becomes a form
Of dps. Tanks dps with lower dps. Dps. And support dps with no primary healing.

That’s what you want right? To fix the games problems! It’s impassible to balance three roles in a game like this. You need to either accept the game for what it is now or realise that it will only work if everyone becomes a flavour of dps with small utility it survivability variations.

But you don’t want to hear that.

The introduction of role queue was my favourite update ever introduced. No more being forced to flex, no more begging people to play support or tank, and no more GOATs or quad DPS comps.

And we are down 10+ heroes since they said they were working on Overwatch 2 that’s why we didn’t get it. If we kept our regular schedule we would be up 10+ heroes. It’s crazy we got a new Overwatch 2 with just 3 new characters. Imagine a fighting a game or any ā€œsequenceā€ just giving out 3 new characters.

All I wanted was main tank queue because no one wanted to play main tank… everyone wanted to play off tank. So they made only one tank and tried to make them all off tank type tanks running around in a main tank role… then nerf them back to being main tanks only… (Yes, I’m aware I’m using these terms loosely).

Some of the popular topics back then when the game came out was how no one was playing a tank or support, or created threads like ā€œif you don’t go 222 you instant loseā€ etc. That was until they added anther anchor shield tank and Brigitte but you also had those topics sprinkled in between. So, I think that will never go away. Most players tend to prefer playing these games like typical shooter games and want to dps as it’s perceived the most impactful thing to do regardless of whether or not that is true.

I think they should have done both role queue & open queue and took both of those formats seriously with their own dedicated balancing. Obviously they didn’t probably due to the PVE stuff they were working by then but also it seemed OW was never flexible enough for frequent iterative tweaking and patching until recently. I think they should take it serious and balance each most carefully instead of broad sweeping changes like the health change they did in the arcade modes.

Role queue + 5v5 = wonky game.
