Role q? what?! who?! why?!

Role Queue is the best thing ever.

There are about 1 to 2 new topics an hour with someone having role queue and saying it’s wrong, horrible and will be the death of the game. Each topic has countless support for role queue. Goes to show how much the over all community likes this addition.

Depends on what is long. How many hero released did you miss? Where you around for Goats? Ext Ext.

As the game expands and more tanks and supports are added Utility starts to out weigh damage and dps become less relevant and certain over powered hero combinations push out a majority of the hero cast from being usable.

2-2-2 makes balancing the game and heros easier. It also vastly improves the experience of Tank and support players while also benefiting dps players with stable TEAM comp.

I can see why your surprised. Give it a try and see how you feel after a few weeks or don’t. Either way a lot of people are dancing in the streets and having a ton of fun

You mean all the casual players, that didn’t really follow the big news surrounding the game are starting to create new accounts to complain. Mostly because they were blindsided by the addition of role queue. Same thing happened when no limits was removed. Nothing came of that. Players have just got to get use to it.

Blizzard didn’t add 2-2-2 just because they felt like it or because of a bunch of dudes on a forum wanted it. Blizzard more than likely used a bunch of research data, and determined role queue to be the best thing for the game in the long run. It also helps that streamers are praising it and returning, and that many pros in OWL are happy to play dps again.

Exactly - that’s the reality of it.

Imagine queuing for Support and picking DPS… Yeah. The system how it is now is better.

Amazing how you think is feels dead after playing one comp game after your long break…

I made a survey about it, asking different questions. So far with 70+ replies, around 3/4 like it and 1/4 doesn’t.

I logged back into world of Warcraft after a little break and somehow the max level isn’t 60 anymore and why the hell are the 40 player raids gone? I bought this game based on the lvl 60 raids not to grind some random power 24/7 to boost my hero. And first have to level up to lvl what??? Srsly? 120???

I played overwatch nearly every day and I want role Q so freaking badly i can’t even tell.

You seem to not have liked overwatch without role Q otherwise you wouldn’t have left.
Just my opinion.
Like it or not.

Wow allows you to que as a healer as long as you are able to select a heal skill specialisation.

Like a dps warrior could just que up for tank, bc he could in theory just hit N and switch to tank skill set.
(overgeared groups have way more dmg this way.)
Puure PvE thought = 0 issue at all with beeing a smurf

That would basicly be smurfing and is one of the reasons why we have role SR in the first place. In my experience games in gold/plat are lost by terrible teamplay or zero gameknoeledge … most of the time it’s actually not because players are mechanically bad.

Skirmish does not prepare you to the real match…also “queue for something else next match…” yeah maybe next match but what about this current one.
i had many games in which me and a teammate switched roles caus we felt as if we can do better in a nother role. we dont have that no more…

Pro players and youtube channels like youroverwatch. You can thank them for whining so much about it.

I’ve played about 30 minutes of DOTA in total, but it’s pretty similar to LoL which I played quite a bit…

Now, LoL at least, yeah… you can pick any Champion that you want. But then, you can also… at least in theory… play any Champion in any position. You queue for a place on the map, not a character type. The meta tends to be very strong for certain types in certain positions, but it’s not a requirement of the game.

Plus, of course, you are locked into your Champion for the entire match, and also you can customize your Champion with items to better fit your role.

Overwatch, on the other hand, your physical location (front/mid/back line or flanking) can vary throughout one match and are not what defines your role. Your role is defined by your character type. Certain Heroes tend to be played in certain locations… but that’s not what defines your role, and in fact different heroes in the same ‘role’ may play in different physical locations. Not at all tanks play in the same spot, not all supports play in the same spot, and damage heroes play in almost every spot except maybe the front line.

Plus, of course, although Hero kits are fixed and cannot be customized, you can change your Hero throughout the entire match to better fit your role.

Different games have different ways of defining roles, and different restrictions that make sense if you want a more structured queue.

Oh, also, in MOBAs because your role is a location on the map, it is very easy to determine if somebody played their ‘role’ in at least the basic sense of going to the correct lane. Since you are stuck now going to your correct lane or else getting disciplined, if you aren’t trying to hard-throw the game, it makes sense to choose a Champion that can succeed in that lane.

Overwatch just doesn’t have that kind of structure to it. There are in fact even advantages to picking out of role if you could… 3dps/1tank/2support can be very strong, and obviously 3tank/3support and 2tank/1dps/3support have dominated the top end of the ladder and professional play at times. Removing that option allows for balance to be focused on 2-2-2 specifically, allowing free Hero pick means you still have to keep Tanks and Supports nerfed down to the point that 3/3 isn’t dominating the top of the ladder, etc.

So yeah. People would pick out-of-role ‘just because they can’ in a selfish way, and also for strategic reasons, if they were allowed to. Different games, different incentives for different player behavior.

I love the fact SR is now separate. You can now have more to go on if someone is week in a role or not. It also means no more using one role to raise up in SR only to switch to another role you THINK you are good at. I really hope if nothing else they keep that in the game. The role Q is needed and I hope it stays even if it gets tweaked. As long as I no longer have to deal with so many people who only care about themselves. Will I miss when you could be creative with different heroes of different roles for great combos? A little but now balancing will be easier and the need to learn and plan with your team is needed even more now.

uhhhhhh what did you think role queue would be???

Oh… Dota used to have Role Queue behind a paywall.

And now that it’s free, they still haven’t fixed the one glaring problem with it.

People queuing for supports and picks carry. And so what if they got LP? They could make a new one, throw 100 Turbo matches and return to rank ezpz.

It makes games more balanced, it makes characters easier to balance, it means you can play what role you want, it removes the RNG 5 DPS from games, it gives focus to being able to play different roles.

Yeah the matchmaker is a little stupid right now but game quality is so much better. Toxicity is still an issue but now we don’t have arguments based on not having enough tank/supports.

At a time, you can still play other roles, you just can’t switch in-match.

Most of the community

Role queue in other games may be different but it would defeat the purpose of role queue if you could just play what you want.

Separate Sr is great for the game, it allows you to know roughly how good you are at each role and stop you playing your worst role (say mid plat for an example) in a higher rank game (let’s say high diamond).

I feel like If players could trade roles that would be cool.

Like the main complaint I saw was people just can’t switch, like if you don’t have a main tank player, maybe one of the DPS is a main tank player, they can switch with the tank and then it’s all cool.

So people could like trade roles even when the game starts, maybe only if that other role is within 200sr of the average of the game. Idk it’s weird. But hey I’m not complaining I LOVE role queue.

EXACTLY! AMEN!
someone gets it

i know what GOATS is and i know it was annoying. however this is a TACTIC game and the game pretty much tells you how to play it when it comes to roles which outs limits on your tactics options.

GOATS was an annoying tactic to play against, but it was not unbeatable.
I had MANT MANY game that i had weird composition and we won the game.
i just don’t see what is the point in limiting you selection.
Role trading should be a thing…eventhoughi don’t believe anyone whould do that…

actually technically they do have. But you missed the point.
the point is the role selection not switching characters mid game.
the give everyone a specific role but you can pick any hero to do that with. not what they categorized as a support/tank/carry etc.
