It’s been a while since I thought that Roadhog is too weak. The last time was when Blizzard came up with a brilliant idea and nerfed him till he had a pick rate of 0.27% and a 44% win rate. Now, after comp was ruined by the players, Blizzard thought, why not destroy quickplay + one month later, giving the coup de grace to the competitive mode.
Isn’t it great to have to rely on short ranged dmg? Especially when Blizzard has this great idea and buffs heroes who are strong against this kind of playstyle?
I mean, Roadhog could probably be pretty good if there was something like teamplay, but at least on Platinum-ranked European servers, it’s very uncommon to have teamplay, or a microphone and it’s even more uncommon to use that mic productively. It is much more important to let people hear how great somebody can burp, but I digress.
Now people will say that Roadhog can still oneshot most of the roster. Which is not really true, because Oldhog has received this wonderful nerf, through which he can no longer pull the opponents as close as before. The only reliable way of oneshotting most heroes is to wait behind a corner and kill passing opponents with a hook and a headshot, because than they are close enough. So you’ve nerfed Hog’s only safe source of damage. Btw. it is also very funny to have to guess how many bullets will hit, because of the randomized spread of his weapon.
By the way, it’s also funny when the hook breaks constantly because pretty much everything has priority over the hook, while with almost all other heroes the attacking ability has priority over the ability of the attacked one. Tracer hooked, Tracer uses blink, hook breaks. Mccree hooked, Mccree uses his role, hook breaks. Brigitte hooked, Brigitte uses her shield, hook breaks.
Other scenario. You want to use your ult. You know, the part that should be your best ability. Oh no, D.va has her DM or Mccree threw his flash or the damage of the opposing team was too high and you died. It’s all not so bad, it’s your own fault if you use your ult at the wrong time, but there’s something that’s just wrong. You use your ult, Brigitte walks slowly towards you with her shield up, shield bash, stunned, damage, you’re dead.
Speaking of shield bash. Healing/dmg reduction is the only thing that stops Hog from slipping back to a 44% win rate. How delightful that there are now dozens of new CCs in this game and it is getting even better, because the newest CC has a 5 second cooldown.
Now for the biggest problem. Hog’s weapon shoots 25 pallets, each dealing 6 damage. That’s why armor is particularly effective, because of the many individual hits + each one dealing less than 10 damage. So it’s great to have a hero in game that gives others temporary and permanent armor … not.
