The range of his hook needs to be reduced it’s way too far that it feels unnatural. If it has some kind of wind up to justify the range that would be ok but as it stands it pretty much a hitscan with a huge hitbox. It needs to break easier so can you play from corners if needs be. I’ve been hooked half behind cover/cars etc which should break it as I’m playing cautiously to not get punished but it can drag people out from behind obstacles.
I’ve been hooked very close to hog when he’s not looking at me but because the hitbox is big it will hook your character model anyway.
He’s a tank with two health bars and huge health pool he shouldn’t be one shotting people with a low skill mechanic. He requires multiple counters to focus him otherwise he doesn’t really fear incoming damage.
It’s way too easy to one shot people at least with sigma you have to land a fairly slow boulder with a delay and animation and then two primary fire orbs directly one the target to one shot a squishy. Hog in comparison to that is so easy most people can get it in a few games.
He’s a tank who plays like a DPS and to be honest I think he’s always been a bit of a odd character in overwatch they’ve never really been able to make him work.
90 percent of my games is two hogs which just says it all really. Hes overpicked because hes overpowered.
Roadhog annoys me but there’s no reason to nerf him if you nerf his hook you literally kill the character and almost everything that makes him threatening
First gen Hog was a nightmare the newer updated hog is decent at what he does. Back in those days he didn’t care about your hit box or objects in the way, he pulled through space and time and greeted you with a 99% likelihood of a one shot
I love how some people call Roadhog’s hook a low skill mechanic yet some of the most top tier plays of all time have been made with roadhog’s hook just from long range
Try consistently hooking a small and fast moving target in Masters+ and then tell me if he’s easy or not
Roadhog needs that range to do his job properly. The hook is his tanking tool, and if that sees too much weakening then Roadhog would be pointless. Why hook someone if you could just blast them with the secondary fire if the effective range on both is the same?
It’s a hook on a chain, why shouldn’t it be able to drag you from behind things? You’re lucky they don’t play on that possibility more!
Obviously it would need to be accompanied with other changes as I don’t feel a net nerf is anything roadhog needs-
But I’ve always personally felt hog should’ve have a wind up on hook, similar to Doomfists rocket punch, with the opposite effect.
Have him hold the ability and begin twirling his hook, the longer it is charged the further the hook will go. Allow him to hold the hook as long as he likes (also allow him animation cancel it with shooting / meleeing should the player choose), giving the ability a distinct whirring noise while being spun.
To go with this I’d suggest changes in line with his 3/2/1 experimental, where his TaB ability laid down a defensive healing cloud for his team- but at a minimum, again something else would need to be changed in his benefit.
The reason to nerf him is that he is extremely overpowered and can instant kill most of the characters in the game with little to no effort. Which is quite ridiculous for a character with such high survivability.
Yet when he doesn’t have his hook he becomes extremely vulnerable and a easy kill or ult battery.
Roadhog thrives off of broken compositions of the other team, much like Bastion, when the other team actually has a composition, he loses, that’s why you see him more and more least played up the ladder you go.
You take Roadhog’s Hook, he becomes even less played, because you are taking away what he needs to secure a kill without doing a suicidal mission or just secondary spamming, you take away his damage, again, he becomes less played than he is now, because he can no longer secure kills.
TL;DR Roadhog’s weaknesses are that he has no form of self-defense or defense for his teammates besides his heal which can be stopped by any stun, is weak in medium-long range combat, is very immobile, and has one of the larger hitboxes out of the Tanks.
The hook feels unnatural as he uses it to hook a hamster in a weaponized exercise ball, or the scientist gorilla from the moon, or a literal cyborg ninja but yes the hook and how far it can go is unnatural.
