Roadhog Tips!?!

Hi all!
I’ve been stuck around low silver/high gold for a while now and I’m hoping maybe I could climb out using Roadhog. I’m thinking if I can get good at landing hooks I’ll be able to climb to mid gold or even plat. Correct me if I’m wrong though!

Also, please don’t tell me Roadhog is useless at the moment because that doesn’t really help. Obviously.

with all the zarya running around it might be kinda tuff, so watch for her bubbles.
dont hook someone in front of her if her bubble is off cooldown.

Learn to use his gun better. Getting goods hooks can win you games; the issue is, everyone expects it and the enemy will dive/do everything to counter you. But if you can get kills with his gun alone they become afraid to come near you. That’s when your hooks become the nail in the coffin.

Learn the exact ranges and spreads of his gun. Here is an example, Say I bring a genji down to one shot but he dashes away. In that case I might use my close shot even though he is out of its most useful range. I’d do it because its spread is wide verses his ranged shot. But if he gets really far then I go with the ranged shot.

Brigget/tracer/reaper/genji/zarya will try to hard counter you. Save your hook/heals as long as you can when they jump on you. While you are a target you team should do something useful. Focus on staying alive. Zayrya is different. You can wait for her bubbles to be down or tell you team to shoot through her bubble so you can get the hook.

Honestly roadhog is kinda useless at the minute, but if you play smart with him and watch for the enemy Zarya and Brigitte cooldowns you might be able to make him work.

He is a fun hero, he just has a hard time getting anything done this season.

Whenever you use Take A Breather, put your head down, do a 180 degree turn so the enemy cant see and shoot it, so you will not take headshot damage, overall taking less damage.
Doesent matter if you are playing against certain heroes, since not every hero can headshot. Zarya, Ana, Junkrat… For example.

One tip, do NOT flank as Roadhog. No matter who tells you it works, I’ve witnessed Hogs on my team and the enemy team try and fail several hundreds of times. Just don’t do it

If there is a Zen on the other team, keep a watch out for discord. There might be to counter the Zarya Hanzo combo.

I’ve got some 140 hours on roadhog. Best thing to do is stop feeding ults (stop taking damage!!!) and go play a few dozens matches without hook in qp

Hey, that sounds like a good idea. Would be a great way to get good with his Scrap Gun!

so you gotta face facts. his gun is useless most of the time. the only positive is his hook. but it has a long cooldown so if you miss, just think. your basically useless till you get it back.

and it better be a kill or its the same as a missed hook. waste of time

found the trashhog. His gun is his strongest asset. Doing 150dmg shots at a decent shot rate. He just requires quite some skill to hit his alt-fire which makes him so damn strong vs tanks.

I love Hog, but between the Zarya bubbles and Brig armor everywhere, mixed with the inconsistency of his gun, its hard to make him work. Well, harder than usual. :smirk:

idk what youve been playing. the old hog gun was good. this hog cant even kill a tank with a whole clip. the gun is so inconsistent. the only thing consistent is his shield break.

with armor and zarya and triple support everywhere. hes terrible. plus dva is better against tanks than he is. zarya fully charged is better. hes by far the worst off tank.

things roadhog can kill easily with 3 shots: zarya, winston, roadhog, dva, orisa, reinhardt. You’re just trash apparently when you need more than 5 shots.

Yeah, he’s not a flanker anymore. Not really much of a tanker either, but with a Zenyatta orb or Ana he can be a better tank that Reinhardt. A dedicated Mercy make him basically invincible.

first of all, roadhog is still among the best heroes to batter down a shield. Armor was taken into account when I said that roadhog can reliably kill any tank with 3 shots. Obviously those are good shots that you need to take, not just trash spam. Arguing roadhog cannot 2-3 shot an enemy in every situation from all distances is just silly, when he can do so in a lot of situations on the front line. You don’t compare heroes on how well they do vs zenyatta’s ultimate and then go saying hero xy is bad because he cannot kill through zenyatta’s ult.

yea this is if there is no healer. idk what elo you play at but its super rare to kill things in 3 shots with hog.

plus thats if they stand there like a bot. zarya can bubble, road can heal, winston can shield dance, dva can defense matrix, orisa can fortify and just tank it. rein can just shield jump back kinda thing and it takes way more than 3 shots.
